Detroit Wheel and Tire (Stay Away!!!!)

Although this is not a dealer, I must comment on the problems I have had with this company since many people may purchase wheels from them.

I purchased "refinished" BMW style 172 rims from this company in September. when I road force tested them all wheels were severely bent and not usable. They were guaranteed to be straight and true before I purchased them.

I have been trying to work with these people to get a refund, but they are giving me a very hard time and avoiding me.

Stay away from these guys!!!:thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

Sorry to bump this thread back up, but I am thinking of doing business with this company and was wondering if they were able to resolve this issue to your satisfaction?

Wouldn't recommend

I eventually got a refund on the rims after a few weeks of calling them and emailing them constantly. You have to also consider that all four of the rims arrived so severely bent that I could not even drive on them.

Poor customer service, in my opinion and I would not recommend them. Those rims were cheap for a reason.

Thanks for the warning.
Being local (relatively) to them, I was thinking that if I ever needed to go back to my stock wheels - they'd be the first place to go to. But now I'll be a little more leery.

Thanks for the update. Reading their website it sounds like they buy used/damaged rims and refurbish them back to spec and resell at a profit. It sounds as though they sent you rims that were not reconditioned at all. Did you ask them why they sent you 4 damaged wheels? Did they offer to ship you replacements?

Same here! Detroit wheel and tire are scam! I bought a refurbished 2006 Lexus GS430 rim from them and it was not running true on the Hunter Machine and after 6 months with small tiny vibration in steering wheel, I got rid of it and bought a new OEM wheel straight from Lexus. All I can say that they do not know how to refurbish their rims. Please everyone, like the OP said, stay away from these guys. I live in Bloomfield Hills, a suburban area 45 min outside of Detroit and I know about them very well enough to say that they are nice people but their business is not top notch.

Detroit Wheel and Tire - Still at it again

I purchased a set of 5 wheels in late 2016 from Detroit Wheel and Tire. I took them to a professional tire shop to install. They were shocked at what they saw when the boxes were opened and they placed them on the balancing machine.

4 out of the 5 wheels were bent on the back of the wheel. The shop manager and owner inspected them thoroughly and said there was no way that the wheels were damaged from shipping. They were clearly reconditioned wheels where the front of the wheel looks mint but they didn't bother fixing the pothole bends in the back of the wheel. I was told there is a degree of risk involved when repairing these types of bends as the wheel can crack, which explains why they didn't fix them. Detroit Wheel and Tire asked me to ship all of the wheels back and make a claim with UPS which is totally wrong and a waste of my time. The boxes were not damaged at all and this was clearly the fault of Detroit Wheel and Tire.

One of the wheels was so bad the shop manager refused to install it so I had to ship it back to Detroit Wheel and Tire for replacement. I understand it's under new ownership but the workmanship is still garbage.

Perhaps they thought because I'm in Canada I wouldn't make a big deal about it. I'm going to let others know about this because it's deceptive advertising. They should place disclaimers on their website indicating that wheels may have cosmetic issues and bends on the back of the rim.

To anyone who is considering purchasing sports wheels for your M3, M6 or other sports wheels... AMG, SRT8 etc... think twice!

If they had been open and honest about this on their website I probably would have purchased somewhere else and this review would never have been posted.

HAHAHAHAH that's exactly what I was thinking right when I clicked on this thread. Only thing worse than that would probably be Aleppo Wheel Repair or Mogadishu Custom Rides and Wheels.

2008 BMW  [0.00]
I got a set of Style 32's for my E36 there with no issues. I believe they fixed the issues from the old owner.

I was a put off by them when they show pictures of perfect new wheels and condition states “brand new powder coat finish” but when I asked they admitted they were used reconditioned wheels. That seemed like false advertising since nowhere did they indicate reconditioned and I wonder what happened to the wheels that required reconditioning.
