Angel Eye LED

Hi, got me new LED's through yesterday for my AE's. Had a quick look last night in the dark to see how easy it will be to change them from the Bay Area. Near side doesn't look too bad but off side looks a bitch. Looks like I need Torx bits and a small ratchet?

i read somewhere that the plastic bracket that connects the bulb needs some bits chopping off and drilling? Anyone else know about this?

Thanks

When doing my friends LCI E90, we found it much easier to simply remove the wheel and arch lining and sit inside the arch facing the back of the headlight. Much easier than it sounds also.

There was no chopping, cutting or drilling however. A link to the AE's you bought may prove useful?

Sorry, it's these

http://www.horizonleds.co.uk/bmw-20w...ch=Angel%20eye

Also forgot to add I'm fitting to a E91 2009 320d LCI

Trying to weigh up which way is quicker and easier, either through the top or through the arch

Those are the same bulb type in my friends E90 LCI and no modification was necessary.

I doubt the E91 and E90 have different headlights (exc. Xenon vs Halogen) but for your own peace of mind you could always email Horizon and ask them?

I did mine last year via the bonnet, for the offside I unbolted the Airbox & just pushed it out the way this gave me just enough room to get my hands in

A set of Hex Allen keys might be useful if you can't get a wrench in as it is tight

I moved the airbox out the way and I used this from maplin to get it out:

Still think wheel arch is the way forward. Takes 10 mins from removing the lug nuts to being inside the engine bay haha!

Can you get the arch lining out without taking the wheel off? Or at least be able to create a gap to get your arm?

Well, there is in fact a little access window in the wheel arch, which is really helpful for you if you are say, an ant

And you may be able to take the arch lining out without removing the wheel but it would be much more effort than just taking the wheel off!

Ditto wheel arch lining removal. Changed the angel eyes on my E90 from halogen to LED (mines got adaptive xenons) and with the car on axle stands removed both front wheels/wheel arch liners and it was a 20 min job max.

I actually spent longer removing the rear section of arch liner and cleaning out the muck that had built up behind it from the drain under the bonnet!

Indeed it really is easier to do it via the arch. I scoffed at the idea when I first read it but in practice it makes life so easy.

Finally got round to fitting my LED's this afternoon. Nearside piece of piss through bonnet. Offside went though arch, awkward but was pretty simple, only really needed remove the inner screws and could pull lining back enough. With a combination of that gap and the removable access flap it was easy.

They look a lot brighter. Do they flicker on start up?

Mines fliker if on the off position but I leave mines on to auto so when i unlock the car the angel eyes come on. It is normal to do this as it is doing the canbus startup check.

Now I need to upgrade my main beams to led so it all looks white.

Just change your main beam for whiter ones, you got halogen or xenon?

They're are some good white halogens on the market. My friend with the E90 I mentioned earlier did white halogens and they look really good.
