Funny you mention Peter Egan.... I loved reading his articles in R&T. I even have a copy of his book "Side Glances".

Speaking of R&T... I also loved the photos from the last page of the magazine... PS... series. This was a favorite one of mine...

I first met Peter at the Mid-Ohio racetrack sometime back in the 1990s. He's a thoroughly interesting person. In addition to all things automotive, we both enjoy guitars and playing the blues.

He came up with many of the clever captions for the last page of R & T, especially the ones featuring "Bob." His articles were always outstanding, especially the ones about his road trips. A very gifted writer!

Some of those cars I owned seemed like a really good idea, but turned out to be less so in practice. I bought the Alfa Romeo when it was 1 year old, and it was already jumping out of reverse gear when you backed up. And the oil gallery plugs in the crankshaft blew out when the temperature was very cold. And the convertible top started leaking. Eventually the rain would just come straight through the fabric!

When it ran well, it was the best sports car I've ever owned. But it seldom ran well. Newer cars are much more reliable these days, thankfully.

Many years ago I would see an impossibly rakish, low-slung, beautiful pre-war coupe parked along one of my favorite twisty roads, north of Baltimore. I stopped to look at it occasionally and discovered that it was an SS1 2-door sedan. I've admired those early Jaguars ever since.

The ones with the 1.5-litre engine are probably not much fun to drive in modern traffic, but they sure look great!

I'm working on setting up the next 335i tour, so stay tuned for more. But first I have to write up my most recent tour, which was in the Aston Martin. It included the DuPont Nemours Estate in Delaware, along with an abandoned snuff factory and some bald eagles. But no biplanes!

Great, thanks!

As for the larger type, it always annoys me when a site makes me squint. It's compounded, because a given type size looks smaller on a high resolution monitor.

On the other hand, maybe I just need new glasses! I have a pair on order…
