Slight clunk with Wavtrac in reverse only

Had a shop install the wavetrac into the pumpkin (I brought pumpkin into them), I installed everything else. When shifting, going WOT no noise at all but I hear a clunk (Not very loud) when going from park to reverse. If the back-lash was not set correctly would this cause this issue?..when car is in nuetral there is a bit of play in the drive shaft before it engages and I was a bit concerned. The only reason I had a shop install the wavetrac was to set the back-lash LOL!! The Insert nut is tighten, all h;laf-shaft bolts are tight...EVERYTHING is torqued to spec.

How much play should be in the driveshaft before it engages (half shafts move)?? Is there a way to test this?

There looks to be maybe 3-4MM of play give or take a 1MM LOL!

My quaife does it going across the gate from reverse to 1st. Or neutral to first if I've recently come to a stop and the idler shaft is still in action. Kevin Bird thought aloud maybe (unsure) momentum of the idler shaft being carried into firmer bushing and heavier diff. Offered to try thicker gearbox oil to slow the shaft but I declined.

Yeah I think it has been confirmed that aftermarket LSDs clunk. I've had mine for 25k and its done it the entire time, but slowly gotten better. Nothing to be worried about.

Yep, OS Giken here and mine does it. It definitely got quieter over time. I have an auto. I'm a believer it's more noticeable in automatics. When you shift into reverse on an automatic, there's "load" there that isn't present when you shift into reverse, before you let out the clutch on a manual. That makes it more noticeable I think in autos.

It's not a significant clunk, but I think it's more noticeable before the diff is broken in.

Does it sound like a two chalk sticks being hit together? If so, mine does the same thing. The shop that did my backlash is very well respected, I think it's just the nature of the beast.

I have zero noise in forward gears as well with my Wavetrac

like you wouldn't believe, I use to fishtail/spin up to 100 mph, now car spins slightly and launches.

I replace the following with wavetrac

Powerflex subframe bushings
DEFIV differential lock down unit
Rogue engineering upgrade tranny mounts

The car plants and goes now?

That Lockdown kit is a night and day difference. I am still on stock subframe mounts and tranny mounts though.

LSD is amazing into tight turns and exiting turns. It feels like it pivots around corners if I want it to.

yes, I used to log st 40 and I would literally just roast the tires, then hit 4 th and still roast and wheel hop....surprised I have 1/2 shafts lol!! Now it spins slightly nd then just hooks, noticed it the most on the shift....you loose a ton of power on the shift without a LSD....you will be surprised!

Sorry to hear about this. Mine went in monday, with all your torquing specs, and it works flawlessly without any noise. I think you're right on the backlash being set incorrectly.

My wavetrac does the same. And it was installed in the pumpkin by them. I did the core exchange. It's not that noticeable though, I forgot about it until now lol
