Shredded 2nd Gear, 6 Speed MT

Shredded my 2nd gear last night and was looking to see what is out there for upgrades or replacement ?

I was always under the impression that these gear boxes were pretty robust but I guess not 😬

They are very robust, but they can still fail. I'd just have it repaired with oem bits and new synchros all around.

Repair if you can get the parts, but they aren't too expensive to replace. Honestly you're the first I've heard that has destroyed 2nd gear, and lord knows I've done enough ham fisted shifts on mine (we won't pay too much attention to the whining synchros right now).

How many miles on the trans? I don't think I've ever heard of this either. What led up to it?

Apparently it's next to impossible to get replacement parts for the 6 speed manual gearboxes. You will likely need to find a complete unit at a junkyard.

Just turned 60k - was doing some donuts when it happened, last weekend was giving the road some new black stripes, so I'm not being gentle on it.

Looks like salvage yards are getting 6-900 for a MT gearbox up my way.

What are your mods? Have LSD ?
Did it fail while shifting ? Or did wheels caught a traction and that's when it popped ?

Looks like this is the case for these GS6-53 series transmissions. Something about the tolerances and specs are so tight they assemble them at operating temp I read. Maybe that's why they charge as much as the steptronic when new. Find one used looks like.

I think our best chance for replacement MT parts is Propulsive Dynamics.
