Overpowering my tires? Need recommendations

I really didn't think I'd come to a point where I'd overpower my tires. In 2nd on flat dry ground, they consistently break away when I go full throttle. 3rd gear hangs on just fine. My tire specs are Hankook Ventus V12 (255 rear on stock M Sport 18" rims). I've got about 20k miles on them, but believe me, I am a pretty easy driver (sporty, but no burnouts and rare runs to redline). Eyeballing the tread, it looks like I've got tread left (maybe 5-10k miles, estimated). My car has a Jb4 tune, running 40% E85 (~17-18 psi map 5), BMW PE exhaust. I don't foresee any other big power mods in the near future.

So my question is, would upgrading to 265 rears take care of my 2nd gear traction issues?

I am considering the Michelin PSS for the rears as well. But is it okay to mix front and rear tire brands?

Wider & Stickier tires will fix most of the issues. If you're just doing mostly street driving, mix tires will be okay.

I have personally dealt with your problem. I had ventus V12 tires on my old G37 and after a 20-25K miles they would never hook up! Michelin PSS tires would be perfect for you. I run them now on my 135i and are great for high horsepower.

PM more for some pricing. We are local in Pomona

As long as cold temps aren't to blame, a switch in tire type to one such as the Michelin Pilot Super Sport would help a great deal.

don't expect much from the v12 tires , they are cheap and break loose easy. I have them on mine right now and the only time they really stuck to the ground was in the heat of summer. Won't be getting these cheap tires again. And I am running 265 in the rear.

Thanks for your personal experience. Looks like my next set will be PSS's in 265's.

+1 on the PSS! I stuck some 275's in the back and they made a huge difference with traction (FBO w/ e50 pro-tune). With just 91 octane and with the tires warm they would actually do a pretty good job of even hooking 1st gear so I'd HIGHLY recommend them.

I'm on 265/35/19 and the wider 10mm on both side will not help you, my tire was pretty worn on 10k mile as well. If you trying to save money go easy on the acceleration. Not sure if you go expensive tire that would save or not, since on the top the bat you already paying a premium for the tire price.

Not trying to save money or mileage. The 3 is my weekend car. Just want the correct traction for the mods that I have. No sense in more power mods if I can't put any power down to the ground below 3rd gear. lol

If that the case, LSD does wonder and it will ensure you all the power to the wheel and nothing get robs
