And here I am, after 38 pages and few days reading this thread.. and, incredible, still couldn't find a straight answer some questions:

1 .EU spec e92 -325i, N53 engine (2996cc), 218hp - will this OFT do the right job after i will upgrade to the 3stage manifold?
Will i get the extra 60hp which separates 325i from 330i ?

2. will this tune fit for the 95oct and / or 100 oct we have here in EU ?

3. did anyone did this on THIS specific engine?

thanks

it's not really a tune. it's a way to flash your DME, which you can use to make your own tune. You could possibly make your own tune, but with the N53, you'd be pretty much on your own.

in your case, I'd recommend going with a company that can tune your specific engine.

it's not really a limit, it's the way the flashing/boot process works. it writes a series of 00's to check if the flash worked correctly (it won't boot if the second set of 00's doesn't appear). The space in the DME for that is limited, so when it gets full, you can't flash anymore. However, you can reset it (with BDM, desoldering, special software, etc). the flash memory itself can be flashed basically an unlimited amount of times.

regardless, it doesn't exist on the E90 platform.

damn.
Actually, for me would be enough also the stock map of a 330i N53 engine, basically the only difference between this N53 -325 and N53-330 is the intake manifold and the ECU software.

if you're handy with hex editing and had both files, you could probably pull it off. they would have to be from the same software version though, otherwise the offsets won't match.

what DME does the N53 use? MSD80?

Right now i don't have any tool except INPA, i dont think i can hex with this one.
I guess MSD80, this the new generation GDI engine they put to replace the old ones.

What BMW did, was to de-tune this 3 liter engine to output 218HP as the previous 2.5 liter did.

1. The OFT itself wont do that. You need a tune for the 3 stage manifold. OFT is just for flashing purpose
According to the AWRON display and VirtualDyno my car pulls something about 29x PS at the crank

2. Shiv said he adjusted timing, so the better the fuel is the higher the power output should be

3. yes - me!

I wouldn't count on it.

You can do basically the same thing as the OFT for free with bimmerlabs - I don't have public XDFs for MSV80, but neither did the OFT (and what they did have was completely useless).

I did some long reading and searching but couldn't find a lot of input on this matter, this thread seemed most relevant... What rev max / max RPM limiter have people been running already without issues, with the N52B30?

Yeah that information is kind of scattered because the stock intake manifold, along with the 3 stage intake manifold, is restrictive past ~6500rpm (resonance issue, I've been told). If you want to continue making power after that, you need an N54 intake manifold.

That said, I've been running 7200rpm just fine. Pretty sure others are at 7500. BPC tested a car to 8200 numerous times and it didn't go ka-blamo until they boosted it.

Wow, thanks.
I have a EU 330i, so the intake should be fine. Stock it's doing 7200RPM before the limiter kicks in. It has some great pull left in that rev area so I was speculating about 7500-8000RPM. When it is tuned, there should be some power left in that RPM band.
The only thing I'm worried about is valve spring hovering...
But maybe, like you say, the 3 stage IM might be causing resonation after 7200.

the 3 stage causes negative resonance after 6900rpm. maybe power would pick back up at some higher RPM, but to me it feels like it doesn't. On the dyno, when you hit that RPM torque drops off like a rock. I'd call it the '3rd stage wall'. I've played with different configurations of flaps being on/off after 6900rpm but it doesn't help.

Thanks for the valuable input! Indeed, after 6800 something if feels less powerful. Might tune to 7500RPM, see what happens...

The OFT isn't going to help you with that - it's basically DOA for our community.
