You clearly don't know what you're talking about; my driving, or the 335i vs the IS350.
Alright, now i dont know if this guy was just a bad driver or not but i was on I83 and i came up to a IS350 and he flew past me. so naturally i drop it into 4th and catch him. we went from a 60mph roll and i just dropped it into 3rd and shifted into 4th and by the time i was ready to shift into 5th, he was at least 3 car lengths back... Like i said, he may have been just a bad driver but from my experiece... the 335 is faster.

I test drove the IS350 before i made my final decision as well, and it certainly doesn't have the same fun factor nor the power feel.. Plus the fact that it only comes in AT was a big turn off.

The 335 will beat this car hands down, and all day long!

The 335i is faster from rolls. But like I said before 0-100 the is350 is fast. Its just a drivers race from that point.

Hi everyone, my first post here.

Heading to work yesterday in the NSX, I raced a 335i yesterday from about 0-100 on an empty stretch of road. I was only able to pull about 3 car lengths, I was pretty surprised because I initially thought it was a 330. My NSX has a couple mods and probably runs in very low 13's if taken to a 1/4 mile track.

Well after the race I started some research on them and wound up here. I also have an IS350 and wanted to see what 335i owners thought of them. I am very surprised at the responses! Especially regarding the 'comparison of acceleration'. Some magazines rate the 335 quicker (Car and Driver) and some rate the IS350 quicker (Road and Track). At this point, stock vs stock they are very similar and it may come down to something as simple as outside temperature (heat hurts turbo performance significantly). I would love to meet up with a 335 owner(or owners!) here in Charleston for some friendly comparisons and to talk about the cars in detail and maybe grab a bite to eat.

BTW, I chose the IS350 over the 330 and S60-R a little over a year ago. No 335 available back then! I really like the IS350 and I like the 335 as well, just have not had the chance to drive one.

I'm also very interested in the 335 vs the IS350 from a tuning standpoint, from what I've seen the 335 has a significant edge over the IS350 initially. I want to see more strip times from the modded 335's though! Very few IS350's are in the 12's (mostly due to weight reduction + I/E mods) but there are already many 335's there.

Something else I've noticed is that both cars seem to have traction problems off the line due to tires or launch control computers.

First, welcome to the forum! It seems that you were up against a stock 335 i. The PROcede or Turbo Tuner really improve the straight line performance of the car, especially from a roll. IS 350 is a nice car, and well built!

Enjoy!

It was definitely stock. My NSX should trap about 106-108mph. A chipped 335 should be about the same. That Vishnu 335 traps 111mph already on the tune + exhaust, I'm interested to see where they take it.

Edmunds got 13.0 @ 109 with a steptronic Procede.

I will also like to see where did Vishnu achieved 111mph. Most of the chipped 335 I've seen here in this forums are around 106-108 mph

Straight-line wise, they are closer than you think. I believe that the IS350 tested at R&T was marginally faster than the 335, but I'm a little bit skeptical about it.

Yeah, and those times were with stock RFTs and the old PROcede map; with the v1.4 map s/w and wider, stickier tires (with better traction for a better launch), better times are possible...I know one guy recently ran the 1/4 mi. at the track in 12.731 sec. @ 109.53mph.

Based upon a simliar traction problem from a dig, the IS 350 may perform similarly to a stock 335 i. But look at the trap speeds of a 335 i with a tune--it's CLEARLY much faster than an IS 350, especially from a roll. Those of us who have better tires and PROcede know that from a roll the car performs well beyond the 1/4 mile times. It CLEARLY outperforms cars that test similarly from a dig.

As a former modded IS300 owner and frequent my.is forum visitor, I can attest that the IS350 guys are having the same pep rallies as us. I too seriously considered the 350, but the lack of a stick drove me to the Bimmer.

Glad to be a proud E92 owner, and looking to set up something with the local SoCal IS350 crew during one of their meets.

Count me in!! I raped an IS350 when I was stock (20-100 roll) ... Can't wait till one messes with me now with the PROcede in. :rocks:

As long as we had some cool cats, then maybe a future cross-rival meet could be worked out, say at Super AutoBacs?? I got a buddy who works in the A/V department, and they have club meets all the time there.

Heres rflows stock time which seems to be the best on drag times right now as stock 335i's go. I also believe he used DR's also.

13.2 @ 104mph

Heres a stock is350. Not sure if the tires were changed or not.

13.4 @ 103 mph

Dont knock the is350 until youve driven it. Or at least raced one. What do i got to do get a video of me vs one or something, to show you how fast they are?
It is a good time for the IS, my car went 13.34-104 bone stock with the runflats.

I raced an IS350 from 0-80 mph and pulled about 3-4 car lenghts on him twice... but traction was a big problem with my 335 (my car has a Turbo Tuner) as the tires just kept spinning through entire 1st gear. Barely got some traction in 2nd gear.
I should practice launches more...
