BOV vacuum line fitment question....

Replacing the OEM chargepipe with an aluminum pipe flanged to accept a TiAL BOV; the vacuum line supplied with the BOV is 1/4 in ID; I need to have someone help me answer if the 1/4 in ID line will connect to the existing OEM barbed fitting that is screwed into the side of the intake manifold; will the 1/4 in ID vacuum line be too big for the barbed OEM fitting? If yes, what is a solution?

Thank you and regards -

I don't think there is a barbed fitting on the intake....someone must have added that.

If you want to check and see if the hose will fit.....can't you just measure the diameter barbed fitting? If it's around 1/4"...then yes, it will fit.

the oem barbed fitting is located near the throttle body in the oem intake manifold (on the firewall side of the throttle body).

tial bov tech support states the top of the tial bov is designed to accept a 1/4 in id vacuum hose.

this would make the od (obviously) something greater than 1/4 in (perhaps an id of nearly 1/2 in if the wall thickness is appx 1/8 in).

this appx 1/2 in od vacuum hose is clearly larger than the oem vacuum hose currently on the car.

reaching the oem barbed fitting without removing the diverters, etc is problematic.

i am trying to figure this out before finalizing my parts order for the chargepipe, bov, etc.

thank you for responding - your thoughts, please.

Ok, I know what you are talking about now. NO..don't use that for your BOV. Order one of the BMS adapters that plugs into the side of the throttle body and let's you hook a vacuum line up to that. Super easy install, and it works great.

is this it?
where does it plug into?
can you tell if there is a "cap" to cap off the exiting oem barbed fitting?

https://burgertuning.com/collections...vacuum-adapter

additionally, found this very helpful video of how to install the bms vacuum adapter - take a look and offer your thoughts.
if the video link below doesn't work, enter this title in youtube and it should come up: 335I BMS TIAL BOV + BOV ADAPTER INSTALL!!

Yep, that's what you need. Yes, it comes with a little cap to put over the fitting on the intake you don't use any more.

Also, the line it comes with is actually 1/4" OD....not ID. I went ahead and bought a larger 1/"4 ID line from the hardware store.

That BMS adapter is a nice and clean install, and works great. It's also got a couple of extra ports you can use for things like a boost gauge if you want to.

Exactly what iqraceworks said. I did the conversion and capped my intake fitting. This works great and the POV functions good!

thanks so much iqraceworks and Jaronbwall -

i've owned the beloved 2013 335is e93 n54 for three months, replacing a beloved 2007 Z4MR of 12.5 yrs.

here's my list of upgrades to be ordered next week; the dual cone air filters were installed in the last two weeks; the replacement ignition cover arrived via ebay yesterday (the oem cover had a crack at the back and a small portion of the side was missing).

can you guys help me spec a replacement vacuum hose in the color red? i'm ordering a tial q50 mm bov in red and the cowl filters will be red (and the car is crimson red); the youtube video i sent showing installation shows the vacuum tube literally pushing into the tial bov fitting and into the bms vacuum adapter fitting - no barb fittings or compression fittings, etc - correct?

if you can assist with the correct od (and id) silicone or equivalent red vacuum hose - please send me a link - that would be very helpful:

i found this vacuum hose and it will work fine - your thoughts:
it is 6 mm id which is .237 in
.237 is just thirteen thousandths smaller than tial's recommend 1/4 in (.250) id vacuum hose
i don't think the incrementally smaller id of thirteen thousandths will negatively affect performance, correct??

Buy your vacuum lines from here:
https://www.verociousmotorsports.com...cuum-Hose-Kits

Arguably the best quality I've ever seen. I ordered 12ft and replaced all my lines including the turbo lines. Easy maintenance job to stop boost leaks. These are the correct size.

Your car is mint man. Very pleasing on the eyes

greetings jaron -
thank you for guidance; i'm a total noobie re tuning a fi car; my 3 months of ownership of a twin-turbo n54 has been one of research and learning; just read your tagline and saw your upgrades - wowie! this is an n54, correct? please send a photo or two of your beloved ride and pics of under-the-hood - can't wait to see it; thanks for the kind words re my 335is e93; not to many 335is e93's around and according to online info previously posted, only 17 were manufactured between 2011-2013 (yrs the 335is was produced) in my crimson red/saddle brown dakota leather and dct.

i decided not to pursue jb4 as it had so many features i don't need; i chose jb+ which as you know, plugs into the tmap sensor and produces pretty great hp increases and can be manually adjusted by removing the cover and turning the "dial" to increase boost.

thanks so much for the vacuum hoses info; the 3 sizes in the kit you sent me look awesome; the "mini" kit has a 3.5mm, 6 mm and 10 mm vacuum hose; the 6 mm is for the bov, correct? please advise where the 3.5 mm and the 10 mm vacuum hoses in the mini kit are to be used?

please forgive all the questions and words....it's great to connect with a fellow enthusiast that is open to dialogue.

regards
bruce

racerbruce You only need about 12ft of 3.5mm lines. Don't buy the kit. All the lines in the engine bay are the same I.D.

This is the correct link. My bad.

Bruce, I replaced my BOV line with the same 3.5mm verocious motorsports line. I have zero boost issues and hit full target boost on MDH stage 2+(18.2'ish psi). These motors were over built. The suspension, brakes, and open diff not so much.
