UPDATE!!! strange noise (ROD BEARING)
:UPDATE: So it ended up being the rod bearing. the mechanic took the car apart and made a warranty claim. After he called me back he told me that they were sending out a inspector to look at the bearings to make sure they were worn. This scared the hell out of me cause i don't want to void my warranty cause of all the mods i have done to my car. The mechanic ensured me that he was only taking pictures of the bearings and not my car. So the next day he came out and he ended up taking pictures of absolutely everything i have done to my car. i was sure that they were not going to cover this what so ever now... Just got the call today that my warranty will be replacing my motor with another used one!!!! so relieved that it worked out for me!!MOTOR IS BEING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So my car has acquired this new sound, at a certain rpm it makes this rattling noise and with a little throttle to goes away. everyone I've asked doesn't know what could be causing this to happen. any thoughts or experiences with this before. All wheel drive? Dam sounds like something I experienced but a lot more aggressive. Turned out to be the front drive shaft.

Figure out if the noise is engine RPM related or wheel speed related or other. When hearing the noise, put the car in neutral and let the RPM come down to idle. If the noise does not change frequency, it is not engine RPM related.

Will try this today. Taking it to the shop next week so this sound doesn't become worse

Started after I got the car back from the mechanic and he was doing an oil pan job so he had to mess with the front diff area so that's a possibility.

Also curious to know if this noise goes away when coasting in neutral to rule out engine, then something else on the drivetrain is likely to be the culprit. Hope it's nothing serious though!

So once I threw it into neutral it would stop but while still in neutral I revved it up and if I held it at a certain rpm it would do it. So I'm not sure

Big ends? Hope not, but I wonder what else it could be.

Big end bearings on the crank shaft, but that's just speculation if this is purely engine related noise. Hopefully others will chime in.

I have the same noise. It's been doing it the entire time I've owned my car (one year so far). Nothing else has ever come of it. I think it's just generic valve train noise.

Do you hear this noise with the engine idling with the bonnet open? Usually lifter noise is heard at idle, and often at its worst when the engine has just been started from cold.

Noisy valvetrain is usually noisy at idle speeds. Noisy big ends typically heard at certain engine speeds with little to no load.

It would most definitely not be good for any engine to be started and run without any oil - why do you ask that though? Or do you mean it is a bit low on oil?
