pre lci.
I have a pile of dead headlamps to play with before the main event. Need to extract the clear reflectors from these broken euro jobs first.

my brother just did unbakeable e39 lenses, possible. You have to cut the lenses and then extract the strip of plastic left in the housing.
attempted baking a lens off a headlamp last night.
big fail.
250 at 6 minutes was not enough.
another 3 minutes made the black housing plastic soft.
the rubber never got gooey enough to pry the lens off.

So cut the lens and then cut the seal with a blade it is.
Idk what it is with light lenses but I have never gotten it to work like the guys in the videos do. That glue never gets soft, I just cut off and that's it like I did in my tail light.

Drove it for a bit. Been lazy lately as I’ve been working from home a lot. However, probably take the e90 on a nice long road trip in two months from now so I’ll probably order some maintenance items:

Belt pulley kit - last done at 75k miles and currently 111k miles.
Cam sensors - never replaced.

Just had the oil changed and the WP/t-stat replaced.

I've taken apart a lot of things in my life, most of it was stuff people told me couldn't be taken apart.

headlights defeated me entirely. If there's some secret technique I don't know it.

since I have replacement lenses I'm not too concerned about cutting them free.

This may help you with your project, it's more than what I'm comfortable with but perhaps you'll give it a try.

Smile What I did to my navy BMW E93 convertible today.

Washed, polished, added black tyre gel to wheels and added new dehumidifier bags to battery compartment boot and under chairs and front windscreen to suck up excess water.... as this car seems to add it from roof .... You can never be. too careful in sucking H20 away from DSE, battery in boot and condensation inside this vehicle. It pays to keep it DRY as possible and towels in the back and protect the battery compartment extra!

Installed a Supersprint exhaust on the 330i to go with the aFe catted headers. This is the catless midpipes and resonator delete X pipe. I wanted the resonators but they're backordered until June, so I went with these. The OE exhaust is going on the 325i to replace it's OE with the rusted off flanges.

The install was pretty straightforward, a lot of fitting required but not too bad, it all lined up in the end. Only mystery is it came with a small piece of slotted pipe and I'll be damned if I can figure out what it's for?

Scuffed the hell out my front passenger side wheel today. Properly annoyed with myself.
At least I've got an excuse for a refurb now.

Little bit of everything today over five cars! On the E91 I tried lubing the passenger door lock mechanism to get it to lock/unlock centrally. Failed to do anything, but the door panel is really easy to take off!

Also took the rear wing/fairing off to expose the diversity antenna/wiring to see if I could figure out why it wasn't remote locking. Got it off fine, but failed and finding a problem. I need to check fuses, which I should have done first...

Finally I tried to figure out what is going on with the side mirrors. They lock into place splayed too far out and you can't see anything without manually pulling them back out of the resting spot. Super hassle and a bit dangerous if it happens at speed. Failed to see any way to readjust the lug ring so that it falls into place differently. I tried the pull it back and let it reset thing... did't work, and I think a fuse blew (won't do anything now). Three fails my indy will be happy about :-/

Mirror "lugs" in place, with mirror splayed out too far:

Mirror orientated correctly, but "lugs" not in place/engaged:

So I moved to upkeep, that's something that can't go wrong! Checked all the tire PSI and brake wear, then gummi phleged all the gaskets on all five cars, which was a bit of work. Then detailed the engine bay of three. Finally detailed/dusted off the fiver and the 330i, and called it a day! They look pretty nice for 12-17 year old cars!

Replaced what I believe to be the original battery to the car. Car is a 2009 328i, 83k miles. The date code on the old battery shows Dec 2008.

Watch the new one only last a year.

that's how unbakeable e39 lights got new lenses recently.
though instead of using aheat gun to remove the strip of plastic you just slide a #11 in there and cut the sealant bead and pull it out.

you have to take apart the mirror and pull that little pin out. Clean it's bore and lube it and then the mirrors will lock into place properly. The little locking bolt has to move freely and it's spring is pretty weak.

That sticker is from the tray that covers the battery. If you want to verify the age of the battery, the date code should be stamped on one of its terminals.

Great thanks, I still have it on the workbench, haven't brought it back for a core yet.

Ordered two new rear window regulators.

I had 4 passengers in the car the other night to go to dinner, the last guy got in and slammed the back left door so hard it sounded like a gunshot. Kept telling myself "it's okay, it didn't do any damage, it doesn't matter" and then DING went the dash, followed by the window warning symbol. Looked back the the window was slowly falling down into the door.

It was on its way out anyway but the X1/9 is the daily until it's securable again. I didn't think it'd be shutting the door that would be the end of the regulator, admittedly.

This is how my passenger rear one died. A guest closed the door and the window slowly sank…

I'm just glad there's enough friction that the window slowly goes down instead of slamming down and shattering. I'm also intrigued at how the car recognized the failure without the motor even being triggered (I thought the anti trap worked like it does on other cars, simply by monitoring motor current to determine load). It seems it's a bit smarter than that. The German way I guess.

Thanks for the reply! I've seen the drill and lub videos/write ups, but figured that isn't the problem as the mirrors don't go all the way forward. They lock into place, but the place they lock into is about 5^ off of where it should be! Think I should give it a try?

This afternoon I did a quick retrofit of the E9X accessory tray to get rid of the ashtray/lighter. Second vehicle I've done this on, and I moved the lighting to the front rather than the sides as the wiring was just a touch different on this car and they wouldn't reach. Quick, cheap, easy... great upgrade!

Underside with LEDs and wiring taped in place:

With interior lights on:
