Figured I'd update you guys

Finally making some progress. Exhausts will be swapped by the end of the day today.

I'll most likely be chopping off the muffler the moment I get it. Not sure how long I'll have to drive with it like that before I can get it welded. Hopefully the piping is in the same location so I can just install the 135 muffler with a temporary band clamp

So doing the 135 muffler swap before anything else to test sound? Did you already open it up and do a "PE Mod" to it?

You got it. Then I'll replace the resonator and then delete the secondary cats after that

And I did yes. I filled every hole in the center as well as every hole in the y pipe. I'm starting to think I should have left a couple holes in the center though.

Second update of the day, here's some small comparisons between the resonators and the mufflers.

I noticed that my calculations were a little off for the res, I don't think I'll be needing the 2.5 to 2.75 adapter. It appears that the diameter near the weld at the res going to the muffler is about the same size as the vibrants (sorry if that didn't make much sense). Without the adapter it'd be about the same length as well. Might need to cut it off. Also the Y pipe is a little wider so hopefully I wont have much trouble installing it.

As for the mufflers, it looks like adding a hanger to the rear stays true. The inlet pipes might match up but I'll have to do some more measurements to be sure.

Edit: So my research was wrong, 328 piping from the res to the muffler is 2.5in while 135 is still 2.75. Looks like I'll be taking everything to the exhaust shop and having it done all at once. I'm a bit disappointed.

Well everyone, its done. The results are completely different than my expectations, it sounds nothing like what I was going for. I'm still very happy with it though, it sounds sweet! We'll see how it sounds after the break in period. Ill upload a couple videos once the break in period is over. In the mean time I've updated the thread with a couple of videos and install pics, you can find on the first page.

Now I just need to figure out why the exhaust flap isn't working

Give it some time to bake.
I was really happy with using the 335 mufflers on my car. I actually have high flow secondaries in, and it actually sounded better this way than being straight piped. Maybe something you can venture in the future? Regardless, happy to hear you happy in the video. ❤️

Yep that's what I'm counting on! I'm thinking a good 500 miles will let it settle in nicely. I'll look into high flow secondaries! And thank you

Exciting! I look forward to hearing more clips, especially drive-by/rollers and in the car as well. If you had to estimate cost, how much total did it cost you?

You and me both! And the cost was a little more than originally planned as well. The end goal was for it to be as cheap as possible (aka DIY everything) however the pipes were way too complex for me haha.

I'll do my best to break it down ⬇️
Cost includes shipping/taxes

Muffler: $150
Resonator: $52
Y-Pipe: $35
Adapter: $13
Muffler Shop: $250
Satin Black Rattle Paint: $10
PE Mod: Free from a friend

Total: $510

Another quick update for you guys, it's slowly breaking in now. Sounds a lot better, and I gotta say so far it's doing exactly what I want it to do.

It's about as loud as a muffler delete, maybe a little quieter. At cruising speeds in normal drive mode its very subtle and quiet. Much less drone than the muffler delete. I can actually have my music at an acceptable volume that isn't turned up just to drown out the noise. Once it's warmed up it pops a lot more on downshifts in sport mode. It also pops pretty nice with throttle blips around 2000-3000RPM. It sounds more like popcorn than bubbles now
As far as the sound itself? It's similar to the muffler delete as well, but instead of throaty and deep its more sporty and refined. I'm still hoping to gain some of that deep throaty type sound back as it breaks in, we'll see how it goes. But so far I'm really liking it.

I'll try and get some sound clips going on my day off later in the week

So actually the first one with the muffler only is probably what I am going for... looking forward to some more clips...

How is the drone so far? I just bought a 135i muffler, so excited to do something similar to this.

Drone isn't bad at all! Similar to the muffler delete but a little bit less. I'll be taking a small trip on the highway on Thursday to test highway drone. Other than that I reccommend keeping a few smaller holes in the center pipe.

Sounds good, I may throw it on as-is for now and see what modifications I want to do. Make sure you record it!

That's not a bad idea, I will warn you though it doesn't clamp onto the existing piping, the exhaust shop had to make a custom pipe to fit it in.

Doing my best to work on some clips for y'all!

Yeah I bought the same peices you bought, resonator, Y pipe and adapter. Having some trouble fitting the resonator to the pipe that goes to the muffler. I dont have the right type of gas to weld stainless steel and really don't want to go buy a whole tank just to do one job.

Nice! BMW did some weird bends in the piping I've noticed. Oval, flattened, you name it. The adapter sleeved over mine pretty easily, muffler shop did a nice job of welding it all together. They did mention it was PITA to weld on the top

This is what i plan on it looking like. I'll delete the secondary cats soon.

Once I can upload an img....the site I usually use is down.

Edit: this is how I welded it all together, but I've ran into problems. Now the exhaust is too long and none of the hangers line up. I may give up and take it to an exhaust shop and have them finish it.

Maybe you can cut some of it off and reweld?
