Replacing my OFHG have a few questions

Replacing my Oil Filter Housing Gasket, Oil Cooler Gasket, belt, belt tensioner and pulleys.

I have a few questions:

1. Do I need to replace all bolts from OFH and OC?

2. Do I need to replace the two Oil Cooler O-rings?

3. Can I reuse Coolant Outlet Hose and everything with it? (had to remove it to get to a OFH bolt)

4. My last question involves the OFH itself, it appears to have some pitting around the gasket channel area (see images below).

Should that be a concern, is it good to reuse?

First Please read my Post #4 on this Thread on my N55.
PS, I did N54 also, same thing, exactly.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1697807

Your Questions:
1. Do I need to replace all bolts from OFH and OC?
ANS1: NO, you can reuse them.

2. Do I need to replace the two Oil Cooler O-rings?
ANS2: Only if they need to be, was there a leak before or the rings were damaged in the removal process. Just an FYI, they are very minimal cost, so why not just replace them.

3. Can I reuse Coolant Outlet Hose and everything with it? (had to remove it to get to a OFH bolt)
ANS3: Yes, you can, but if they are damaged, then you need to replace them.

4. My last question involves the OFH itself, it appears to have some pitting around the gasket channel area (see images below). Should that be a concern, is it good to reuse?
ANS4: If you follow my Guide on Post 4, and use Permetex GREY, then you will be fine. But that pitting does not look good. Try to buy another OFH from a junk yard, you will be fine.
Any E90 or F30 OFH with Oil Cooler is good to go.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply, I went ahead and ordered new o rings they were cheap. When you say any e90 or f30 are they a direct fit? New OFH I found was $300 for the 335i.

Ordered!

$60 is much better than $300. I did buy this car as a project, I don't drive it very much. Saving up for new Turbos, even those I am planning to buy off Ebay.

Finished replacing everything today, new OFHG and Oil Coolant Gasket and O-Rings, new pulleys, belt tensioner, and belt. Cleaned all the gunk using some engine cleaner.

On startup, everything seemed fine, after a short drive I noticed oil starting to seep from the Oil Coolant lines and Oil Cooler Valve

I swear it's a poor design.
That is why I used Permatek Ultra Grey.
No issues.

I made a stupid rendering for you.
that is how I applied the Ultra Grey.
It's a minor amount, but it hold very well if applied properly.
BUT ABSOLUTELY a MUST is that you have to TORQUE Each Bolt Properly to exact torque levels, else you crush the Gasket.

Have a look at the pic I attached.

Thank you, and I totally agree, it's a stupid design. I ordered this thing on ESC to replace the plate as it comes with a gasket. I'll use Ultra Grey if that doesn't work.

Maybe it's time to upgrade oil cooler lines and fittings.

Here are a few shots. I think the oil thermostat cover is leaking and makes its way down to the oil cooler lines because I found oil just above them.

Most likely the thermostat cover, as it will drip down exactly like that. I replaced mine with a new cover and gasket(aftermarket) from the vendor on ECS and no more leaks.

Replaced the mine with the new cover from ECS, it's leaking even more now

What did you torque yours down to? I noticed the gasket it came with was not very thick, it was more or less flush with the oil cooler housing.

To my eye it doesn’t look like the oil cooler lines and bracket are seated against the OFH. You oiled the o-rings and pushed the bracket in all the way to seat it before tightening the bolt? I say that because in your first picture I see a nice machined surface that isn’t meant to be exposed.

Oil Cooler lines are seated properly and torqued to spec. That gap you see is there by design.

@ whoever is saying you can reuse bolts: I'm pretty sure some of those are aluminum. Feel free to reuse, but don't be surprised when they snap off for your next gasket replacement. And they barely cost anything. Blows my mind that people go thru all the effort to do preventative maintainance and DIY but skimp on cheap bolts.
For the oil cooler O-Rings: I think it's a 12¢ part. Seriously. Replace them.

Bolts that I reused are steel all the gaskets and o rings are new. Oil is leaking past the oil thermostat plate, BMW does not sell that gasket separately. There are aftermarket solutions available, however the one I got from ECS only made the leak worse.

Didn't torque it. I also used silicone on it to make sure i wouldn't have to worry about it. I have installed a few and no leaks from them yet.

End up using some Permatex, so far its holding up well no more leaks.
