Ah,ya, that's what it was, sorry for the mis understanding. The hard piping is well suited for inlets and would love to see inlets that are made for the e60 that utilize the right side air intake trac.

Thanks for the confirmation, i was under the impresseion the the stainless steel option was also for stock location.

It appears most people are recomending the VRSF ones so i think ill go with those. Fitment was my main concern but not seeing a lot of complaints for VRSF.

If you still need guinea-pigs i would be down to do some testing, the Bay area here has a Huuuge Bimmer/n54 community.

Not a fun job to have to do twice.

Yeah i've heard these complaints before on the forums but my buddy that i go to does an amazing job, all my friends go to him and have gotten inlets, turbo swaps, etc and never had an issue. So i think im in good hands when it comes to that.

eh ! Expected target dates is Jan 2018 for the Z4, and for the 1 and 3 series right after fitment has been completed, so hopefully right after the Z4 release.

Look like my pan gasket is starting to leak too. The car runs as well as it did 70k miles ago, however; but it's much faster!
I just had my serpentine belt fray due to a bad pulley, and then I also have an oil leak...been looking at inlets and since i'm doing the belt and pan gasket, I'll just throw in some inlets to the mix!

Hey, these look good! Is there much benefit to these inlets for a fbo car on stock turbos running something such as mhd stage 2?

Thanks!

Benefit ? Well according to this log with stock turbos, yes https://datazap.me/u/buraq/log-15112...29&zoom=59-108

This was done on just 4 gals of E85 and 8 gals of 93 Pump gas.

You will need a custom tune to run this setup. The MHD OTS maps were not calibrated for such an intake system. So technically it would be a waste of money if your gonna be sporting this setup with an OTS map.

Edit: I am only using stock turbos to give the prelude of how they will benefit even more on twin upgrades.

No clue on if he got those made, but i do have a 740/x6 airbox, and 2" to 2.5" silicone couplers i would let for for really cheap (single turbo)

I was going down this path before you can make the piping really easily with less than 1 ebay IC piping kit.

PM me if you want the airbox

I know MMP did a write up vs VTT inlets on another n54 post but people are saying that it's biased, blah blah.

Pricing is similar now with MMP being a little cheaper than VRSF.

VRSF 249.99-269.99(Stainless steel) - Claiming UP TO 60whp
MMP 219.99 - Claiming UP TO 51WHP

Obviously not expecting those gains on a FBO stock turbo car but that's what they generally seem to claim UP TO.

What i want to know is the following.

  • Which has better quality?
  • Which has actual higher gains?
  • Which has the best fit to stock turbos?
  • Can you show me Dynos and delta with before and after that compare both with a FBO stock turbo car?

I will only get the stock location.

So any insight helps as i am trying to purchase by the end of this week.
On stock turbos, you might get 20-25hp

removing the rear inlet would have probably been easy with two people, but myself it took like 3 hours. I was trying to do it without breaking it (subframe down and engine angled) but I ended up cracking it on the way out. No big deal. Installing the VRSF rear inlet was much easier, but I had to remove both down pipes, and the passenger motor mount arm to be able to get my hand and a pry bar in there to get the inlet mouth to sit fully on the turbo snout. it was a tight fit.

BTW my e92 is able to hold boost wayyy better with the VRSF inlets and outlet than it did with stock. I was just using the base grade RB Turbos and the 7" ARM intercooler on MHD stage 2+ before. It's also much faster off the line. I do have to rely on zip ties to keep the front inlet secured enough to stay away from the pulley wheels. There's like 0.5 inch of space between them. I'm checking the inlet after every session to make sure they don't rub. It probably helps that I'm using solid motor and trans mounts.
