MHD v7.1 VS v8.0
As the topic says, I've scoured the internet and the forums for a discussion or an answer, and all we get are one post threads. I was wondering what everybody's real world testing and living with the car's experiences are.
Personally, I've run the 7.1 for about 3 months before I switched to the 8.0. I was getting some cruise control corrections on 7.1 but nothing while wot (even on a stock FMIC) so I kept reading people that switched to 8.0 and got better results. After a month on 8.0 I have just a few observations: 7.1 felt like amazing in the top end, after 3000rpm the car would scream. On this 8.0 i feel like the turbos come in smoother and quicker but I really feel a lack of top end, although around the city it feels extra powerful. I eventually checked out my logs between both on some random days I did some pulls and found out that the actual torque amount that the computer shows is down quite significantly in the 8.0 maps. I would reach near 520nm (stage 1 94oct 7.1) vs now 447nm (stage 1 94 oct 8.0). I definitely notice a difference and 'feel' like my car is a lot slower. What does everybody think? There is another thread talking about 8.1 vs 8.0 and there are a few folks saying 7.1 is better/more stable. I chose to flash 7.1 as a result.

7.1 runs great on E60 map.

V8 102 RON as a daily map for me, all my logs and timing show it's the fastest on pump fuel.
V5.1 E40 is still the fastest OTS map! I hope it will be available forever. From a source I know MHD/Wedge is already working on V9 maps...

Custom tune and be done with it
Its seriously not even close, dont even pay for the maps, save your money and spend it on a good tune.

I've compared a lot of OTS datazap vs custom tune datazap, what stands out for me is that in real world the power difference will be very small, or if the tune is too aggressive and you have timing pulls or boost problems, even less. Sure if you go more than FBO let's say inlets/outlets and hybrid turbo's you really need a custom tune. On V8 stage 2+ 95oct I can kill F80 M3 etc, so for just a cheap OTS map it isn't that bad. Also V5 E40 map can get you in the 11's straight line...

It's mostly bc they say up to E30 is fine for most of the user's stock LPFP, E40 get's close to dipping in the 50's. The V8 E50 has more aggressive timing than the V7 E60 as I can see in the datazaps. It's why they recommend the upgrade lpfp starting from E50 latest V8 maps.

I love version 8.1. Full throttle pulls are great and don't seem to tax my fuel pump as much and I am only stage 1+. I've got an E92 m3 and love the V8 and the style of the car but pound for pound a tuned N54 335 is an amazing powerplant and don't flame me gives up nothing to the S54 besides the sound.

One day I will try the v8.1 tunes.....but with the issues people have been having, and how great the v7.1 tunes work on my car.......I'm sticking to v7.1 for right now. Aside from little tweaks here and there....I'm assuming that for the most part, the tunes from different update versions don't really differ that much. When it's all said and done....they are still just "one size fits all" OTS tunes.

Judging from your datazap account you are an RFP adapt. The custom E50 file doesn't even seem to have more load, boost or timing than MHD V5 E40. But hey if it works for you no problem.

Honestly, being FBO I cant justify paying for a custom tune over the V5 E40 map when I'm already trapping 122mph - Not sure there is much left on the table. Last edited by JM98; 01-05-2020 at 03:00 AM.. Reason: spelling |

I run rfp because my car loves it. I ran 12.3 on v5 ots e40. The tune has no low end. Won't get you off the line. Decent top end. I run 11.9 on rfp e40 ots. Top end not as good as v5 e40 but much better low to midrange which makes for better times and slightly better mph. I run 11.6 on rfp e50 custom. This has the best of both. More low end and mid and more top end than v5 e40. But yeah. 'Nothing much different'. I fucking daily drove v5 e40 for about 15k miles. But yeah I probably can't tell the difference. Lmfao

Reguardless of the tune.....how are you able to hook up off the line at all? I can't keep the tires from spinning in 1st or 2nd if I'm hard on the gas. I actually do much better using the MHD "boost limit" in 1st and 2nd.
On a side note.....what does a custom tune cost, and who out there is the best at it without having to go back multiple times for tweaks and adjustments in order to get the car to run right? |

When shopping for an e90 I wasn't considering anything that wasn't auto and xdrive. I wanted to use all my power regardless of the situation. I spent most of my life dealing with cars that were only fast from a roll, I wanted both out of this car.
