Adaptive Headlight Malfunction

Recently had the adaptive headlight malfunction light appear on dash. left headlight wouldn't even level out when I started the car. took a look behind the headlight and the back cover was half off. put the rear cover back on properly and now the headlight levels but I still get the malfunction light and still wont turn the light while turning.

also I didn't pay much attention to it before but should both headlights level at the same time. I say that because the right headlight will level before the left and it looks like while the right headlight is going down the left goes up like they are opposite. there was never any condensation in the headlight so I don't think there is any water damage. seems like the movement was restricted when the cover was half off and now its working again but needs to be reset some way?

I did unplug and replug the headlight harness maybe that would sort things out but maybe I need to disconnect the battery?

Question:

What is the exact code it is giving? CC-ID_XXX?

There are two possible issues, either or:

The controlling module is dead due to water exposure. You will need to replace the module and get it reprogrammed ~$500

AND/OR

The actual plastic gears in the actual headlight are jammed or defective, which will require an entirely new unit ~$1200.

I have had this happen to me last year. It sucks so much, I feel your pain.

If you want to be a cheapskate, you can manually get that 'feature' (adaptive headlights) coded OUT to prevent the error and dash light; however, you would be killing one of my favorite features of our car.

Edit: My issues would start and stop randomly. Eg, I noticed it would be more prone to failure after running for up to an hour. I could turn the car off, get gas start the car and the error is gone.

Please pull the code and report back.

It's showing this error light, correct?

If so, use the side fob (turn signal are) to do a check, it should pop up that icon again, then hold down the end middle section for a few seconds and it will render a CC-ID code.

If not, then I have totally misread your issue.

EXACT error as mine.

Address module first, then headlight assembly.

Do you have an extended warranty? This would be a great reason to use it.

Not sure honestly. I had my warranty handle it. I'm ignorant towards what's required to program it though. I'd check the coding section to see who is local to you.

I have a similar issue after replacing my passenger side headlight assembly over the weekend. Xenons work, but don't level out on start up and the Xenon high beam won't engage.

I'm hopeful that this process that worked for someone else is going to work for me this weekend:

I bought a used module off of eBay for $80 and it worked like a charm. You'll still need to get it coded though.

It is possible to erase the code, but the diagnostic runs immediately on startup and if the fault is still present it will come back. It's annoying having the little triangle lit up and the auto/adaptive lights disabled, but if the headlights still work in the manual mode then you're fine. The best solution is to get a replacement module from ebay, and code it to the car (sync the VIN/vehicle order so the car recognizes the module). It's a pretty simple process once you have the PC with NCSexpert. The module I bought came from a 5-series so I had to code it.

Alternatively, you can try and find a direct swap replacement module (2010 e92 330 coupe) and it may be plug and play. Replacing the part is super easy, turn the wheel to the inside, remove cover, 3 torx bolts and its free.
