One headlight with issues after collision repair
Getting to the last few odds and ends of my collision repair. I bought the car (e92 335i) with a wrecked driver fender, headlight, and bumper.
After replacing the headlight, the angel eye works but the low and high beams do not. At first I thought my used replacement light had a bad ballast so I replaced the ballast but it still didn’t work. I also put a brand new bulb in it. I did plug the driver side headlight into the passenger side harness and both the low/high beams work when I use that side harness. What do you guys think might be the issue? I’ve heard that if the car senses a short in a light for enough cycles it cuts power to that side.. is that true? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Do you have any more info on how the FRM counters are reset? Are there any apps that can read/rewrite the FRM, or does this have to be done using a PC and a specific software?

You can use the bimmer geeks protools app.
I’m not sure if you need to purchase the diagnostic license or the coding license to reset the frm counters. Made this video. Min 20:15 shows resetting the frm. |

So I ended up taking my car to my Indy mechanic yesterday. Although he was able to turn the problem headlight on momentarily, he wasn't able to get it to stay on. He thinks I need a new FRM, but I sear I should be able to do this via Tool32 and INPA.
Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can work on the FRM virtually by remotely accessing my computer? Or a South FL local shop suggestion would be even better. Thanks!

I want to try protools, but it's android only so I'd need to buy an android device first.. Then the license, and even then, there's no guarantee it will work. I'm still considering buying everything to try that approach, but then I'm not sure if I need the Diagnostic or Coding module from ProTool. I just have a bad feeling that I'll spend $200+ to get the device, cable, and ProTool license and it wont end up working for whatever reason. Edit: confirmed with ProTool that I need the diagnostic license, and that the app works with the MHD orange dongle. I'm going to find a cheap used android device and give this a shot. I'll report back ASAP.

I bought a $50 tablet from Walmart specifically for the app.
I just use it for the app and nothing else. It was the cheapest option. A new FRM would most likely fix the issue because the counters in the new frm would be reset. |

Once the app was installed and the Diagnostic license was purchased ($90) it took less than 60 seconds to fix the issue. Thanks for the pointer!
