Make sure all CAN hijacking devices are turned off or removed. Make sure your ports are correct in OBD.ini

Hey vas, I am suspecting one of my injectors is going bad (#3). When going WOT below 3K rpm, my car is hesitant. If I WOT above 4k rpm, everything is smooth, absolutely no issue. Yesterday, I got a code 29CF and the car misfired. After stop/restart the engine, code was gone, so was the misfire. I'm going to replace the plugs at first, to see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then I'll swap coil #3 with coil #4 to determine if the coil is the culprit. If after that I still get a 29CF, it probably means my injector is bad.

I was going to replace it and code it using your instructions, but I was told that I can no longer change only one injector, I have to replace all 6 at once. Is that true?

Also, based on the symptoms, do you think it's the injector?

Thanks!

Your misfire troubleshooting steps are spot on. Plugs, swap coils with another cylinder, then do the injector last.

There is a new generation 2 of injectors that BMW released. The rumor is that they are not compatible with the old injectors and that they need to be all the same on each bank. This means you can replace 3 at a time. In your case it would be injectors 1, 2 and 3 as they are in bank 1.

I have not see anyone actually trying to replace only one injector from the new gen 2 on any of the boards. It might be possible, it might not.

BTW, the last part number for gen1 injectors ends on 261. If you can still get those from your dealer or online, then you can replace just one injector.

Yes. This should work for MSD80 and MSD81 ECUs

I'm going to start setting up my computer for coding, before doing that can you tell me if the files linked on the first page are current and compatible with a Win7 x64 system? I can setup XP mode if necessary as well. Thank you

You will need XP mode at the very minimum. You are not guaranteed success, but others have made it to work. I run this in a virtual machine that runs Windows 7 32-bit

I appreciate the heads up. I'm rather computer illiterate, but my brother is a genius with technology so I'm sure he can get everything configured properly. Wish me luck

Thanks for the awesome work vas. I got it up and running after following your steps carefully. Just want to be clear that this is purely for coding of new injectors, and that we should not be using this to diagnose faulty injectors (or injectors on the way out) correct?

INPA has built in procedures for diagnosing faulty injectors, but they are at a different screen. This DIY aims only to help you recode the injectors.
