here is a videooo

Have you pulled codes using your Procede rev2.5? That will help a lot with what's going on.

Hey Folks,

I am moving to SLC and I'm in the market for a used BMW 3 series. How safe is it driving a BMW during the winter months. Are winter tires a must?

Are there any good BMW shops, mechanics that I should consider for a pre-purchase inspection and future repairs?

Thank you! Appreciate it

I much prefer to drive on snow tires. Ive had 3 RWD BMWs and 1 AWD. All with Dunlop snow tires. RWD has been the best, and most fun to drive year round, you just need a bit of patience in the wintertime.

How about a nicely broken in 335d Msport? Mine is just about up on its lease

Coming from the state of Oregon, I am not used to heavy snow fall. As long as I can get to work.....

Could somebody give me some advice on good mechanics/shops in the SLC area? I don't want to get ripped off -- thanks!

Honestly the valley doesn't get that heavy of snowfall. If I had to guess, there are probably 10-15 days out of the year where I drove with snow on the road. I'd say most of those days were less than 4-6 inches. I do think it depends where you live. If you live up hills you could have more problems. In my experience, the snowplows don't do a great job in residential areas.

I'll let the other folks join in if I'm off base.

I live in East Millcreek/ Holladay (Couple Miles from Cottonwood Heights), I have driven a RWD BMW during winter with bald 19 inch performance tires. I've never been stuck once. If you are going to be living up in Cottonwood Heights though, I'd atleast get snow tires or all seasons. Cottonwood Heights is a nice area.

Would all-seasons be sufficient? I have read some threads saying that RWD with all-seasons can be very risky?

I think if you are going to get different tires, just get snow tires. All seasons arent all that great in the summer, and arent all that great in the snow. Two dedicated setups are 10000000% better in accomplishing what they were designed to do.

I agree with Park. Summer tires are going to be slick with the colder road temperatures. If you can make dedicated work do it. Just make sure you pull the snows off as early as you can in the spring. The hot road temps will eat the tread away on them.

I have a different set of rims and tires for the summer then I just swap them out for the stockies in the winter.

What Parker said. BMW of Murray can do a good job of a Prepurchase Inspection for you for about $100. There are several other BMW Indi shops in the area as well.

I live on the sandy bench. Unlike Jeff...with a brand new RWD 335 and summer tires...I couldn't make it up the quarry bend hill. Managed to pull a u-turn and meet my wife at the bottom of the hill for dinner until the plows could come out. Snow tires installed within the next week.

Recommendations on a shop to install DPs and FMIC in Salt Lake? Or does someone knowledgeable want to help with install for beer/food/non-stop praise?

Everything is going on my E92 (Non-X).

Any idea on approximate cost to install both at the same time?

I've done both...having a lift for the DPs is a huge plus. And Parker helped me with the Intercooler install. Had ramps for that one. Lots of flat on your back time there.

Not sure what shops in town will do catless DPs...
