Gary, is the Kumho Ecsta SPT Ok in wet weather?
The C&D test on the Ecsta MX have me worried. Another forum member has mentioned hydroplaning issues before, and I'm wondering if there is substance to this. I don't want to buy a tire that is prone to hydroplaning. What's the word on this?

to be honest, i have the Kumho SPT's... and theyre not that great.... nothing at all compared to what i heard and read about them....
i personally find they have soft side walls, dry grip is very good, noise is very good, wet traction is not bad, 6.5-7 on 10 for wet driving... TREADWEAR: this is where i made my decision on never buying these tires again.... i have 2 months of usage(4000-5000kms) and my rear tires are more than halfway done.... my buddy has the SPTs on his NSX, and he has put 8000-9000 kms, and his rears are done.... the fronts on both cars are great, my fronts are practically new... but the rears melt like butter.... im gonna try something else when it comes time to replace these.... |

^ surprising to hear the fast rate of wear.
What are you thinking of getting next? Gonna go back to General UHPs? Or are you going to upgrade to something else? |

Hmm...I asked someone at Tire Rack and no one really gave me any indication of anything like that. Basically I heard "We sell a lot of them" "The general's are going to be noiser" "unless your tracking the car" there isn't much benefit by spending more on another tire.
My other choice was going to be the ContiSportContact 3s, in hopes they might ride a little better than the PS2s. |

See this test : http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&...lay.jsp?ttid=4
The Kumho SPT is actually very strong in wet traction. Short of moving up to a higher price point you won't find a better tire overall IMO. Of course the more expensive tires like the PS2, GSD3 and RE050 Pole Position tires would be a noticable step up.
