DPF delete without "full" tune
I am looking at deleting the DPF but don't really want to do a "full" tune, just a JBD or something similar and cheapish. Go ahead and harass me for my decisions...but anyways, do I have to do a full ECU tune for a DPF delete or can I just code it out somehow and just run a JBD?

JDB wont prevent your car from throwing an SES light or going into limp mode. It only increases power with all the stock emissions components in place.
If you're looking to just remove a few emissions components for reliability sake without increasing power, there are a few tunes out there that do this. I know JR offers a tune like this and I'm pretty sure that there are others out there as well. Here's a link to the JR tune for reference: https://www.tunemyeuro.com/bmw-335d-...g-performance/ As far as I am aware, there is no way for you to code out all the necessary components to get a JDB to run correctly. Also, no need for harassment on your decision, to each his own. I went with a JR Stage 2 race which is a middle of the road solution between no emissions and no power increase and full deletes and max power. I'm happy with my choice, especially after seeing how a customers car at mechanics shop is fairing (leaking diff, most bushings in the rear suspension and subframe starting to crack, etc). |

As much as us goats have been through this mess to make what is currently on the market as terms as deletes and how to delete correctly. A lot of us spent way more than we should have. There are plenty of threads regarding deleting on this board.

Based on everyone's inputs, I may save up for a little then do the full delete. Doesn't really seem prudent to "half ass" it. I was really wanting to just do JBD and meth though....

deletes and a JBD will probably make you smoke pretty bad because it dumps fuel and the ecu will push boost. Everything is good right now because you have a DPF in place to suck up the extra smoke. If you get a basic tune that is optimized for what you want you will have a better chance of having a cleaner running car (not talking about emissions)
so far the cheapest option for a stock tune delete is $500 through Dudmd, if you don't have a JBD you have to spend an extra $150+/- to get a used one and you are at $650+/- To do a basic tune through Dudmd is $650 if i remember correct and a FULL tune from BRR is also $650.... NOW if you already have a JBD you can sell it and now your full tune ONLY cost you $500+/- and your car will run better and smoke less then JBD W/tune. There is nothing wrong with going cheap as long as you do it right... I am fully tuned and fully deleted with a down pipe for $800 ($680 if you subtract me selling my JBD) and my car runs 100%. some people might roast me because i didn't spend $1400 on a tune and $500 on a down pipe, i cut my money in the right places without any performance loss. If you get a full tune you will smile more and both ways your car will be down the came amount of time.

You can't delete with just a jbd. The ecu will be complaining of many things not working.
A jbd is the same crap as the cheap resistor based tuning boxes you see on ebay uk. I was able to do it myself with a resistor in line with the 5v feed... Its just telling the ecu that your fuel pressure is lower than it really is, so you get more pressure. The jbd is a riced out version because it has a dial and a fancy chip to make you think it's dynamic... It's not though as many have issues setting it past 80% where you are hitting the relief valve limits. |

the op is asking about doing a DDE tune for emissions and leave the tune stock and using a JBD to add the extra power. its not worth the cost and you aren't saving anything..
There is nothing wrong with a JBD its an awesome mod and there is not one mod anyone can list that adds the same or more HP for the money on our cars. if you want to stay stock and have extra power the JDB is the hands down way to go for a plug and play solution, if you can fit in a resistor even better. if you want to save money and delete don't a main stream tune. BRR can get you set up with a awesome tune for $650 and you can sell your JBD don't take anything less than $120.. and your tune is around $530.. OP if you are looking to save money i have a fully gutted DPF (no cat or filter) i will sell you just PM me!

Also add in a note for the OP (or anyone else).. if you decide you want to up your power levels later and want meth in there or jump to hybrids, BRR will do it for free along with updates.

A jbd at 150+ is a ripoff. Better to get a cheap box like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/PERFORMANCE...SIrb:rk:9:pf:0
But if you are paying for a tune to delete, it's usually the same cost with some tuning included, at least with the big tuners. The biggest cost difference is between the normal and race tunes... The delete is what they charge for. There is a danger with using a box on a tuned engine. If they are already increasing rail pressure, the box could push it past the point at which the relief valve operates, and on the cp3 it can start to not seal properly after a couple times of opening. |

JBD has proven its performance, people have dynoed then and tuners have stacked them in on top of tunes and had nice gains. i ran one for almost two years with zero issues before i deleted my car.
i have not heard of anyone running the box you listed and cant find any user feed back about it.. ill say JBD works and that doesn't
