FYI, Cobb products are made in the USA (in Austin, TX).
Great article, Mike! Should be a sticky. I have been happy with my AA FMIC. Its been around for a while and wasn't much more than a VRSF one.

I'm about to buy an intercooler and think I want the 5" stepped VRSF, but I want to know what the fitment is like with the long version ER chargepipe I already have.
I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember reading that someone had an issue connecting the lower CP from the VRSF to the receiving end of the long version ER chargepipe. So, if there is a fitment issue, what is it and can it be remedied with a different lower chargepipe? I'm curious if it's too long or too short, or if the angle is just off. If anyone has certain info on this, I will appreciate it greatly. Also, perhaps there is another intercooler that would be good for this situation? My ultimate goal is 400WHP, I plan to run meth and eventually get inlets, but for now I have the JB4 with MHD BEF, a drop in K&N air filter, and ER chargepipe. Since I want it to pass smog without having to swap things out, I will not be going catless. Thank you in advance. |

The regular VRSF 5" FMIC and ER charge pipe will fit without any issues. Issues were with the VRSF race and ER CP

Hi Mike,
Currently on PPK Tune on 2011 335i Xdrive. I have an ER CP and am on stock turbos. Not considering changing the turbo and will not be changing downpipes. Considering a Eurocharged tune (conservatively set for their tune) somewhere between 14-16PSI. My use is for street only - occasional spirited driving, pulls here and there. I do have a bit of a heavy foot. Beyond this I will not be planning any other mods - what IC would you recommend? It seemed that the VSRF 5" is a good option. I am looking for direct plug and play fitment with my current setup (no modifications to install). |

Yes you are correct, VRSF 5" stepped core would be what i would go with for a plug and application

So which inter cooler would be optimal for a good power boost on stock turbos but keeping that pressure safe for long life as I really don't plan nor want my turbos going out.

Hi Mike... I ended up ordering the vsrf 7 street for my 2011 e92 xdrive (msport). The overwhelming online advice has been to just go with 7 vs the 5 inch stepped as there is negligible pressure loss and the price is is almost the the same...
Just to confirm are there any fitment issues with this considering I have a ER Charge pipe |
