Thoughts on 335is Flash

I'm looking for opinions as to what flash I can use for my 335is to give it a bit more responsiveness/power. So far I'm looking mainly at the JB4 PnP as I've seen a fair bit of the community use this with success. But I'm open to other suggestions. Did a bit of reading in the engine forum and it seems the JB4 is doing well in feedback.

The only ECU flash I've played with thus far is an AA tune for my former E90 M3 but I didn't really feel that it did anything for the car in the end, so I was a bit hesitant to try when I picked up the IS. I've had the car for about a year now and I figure with the turbo engine it will be a different story to try. I'm looking for something fairly PnP, the on-the-fly controls via the steering wheel for the JB4 looks like a good perk.

Any thoughts and recommendations as to where to look for this (N54 Tuning being an option) and feedback from those that have it in their cars?

Thanks

Thanks!

I don't think there is a flash for the IS right now. We've had a few customers running the JB4 on their IS and they are super happy with it.

Can you PM me some details as to cost, configuration, installation etc. that I can get through you? I'm in the GTA.

Are there downsides to using the JB4 on the IS as you mentioned there's not a dedicated flash for the car yet?

335isguy (e90 member) has the MarkD flash.

His car pulls very nicely. I suggest you contact him for feedback on his flash.

335isGuy has been running my flash in his 335iS since last year, and so has this other 335iS which was in Targa Newfoundland with it last September.

Here is the 335iS with 7 speed DCT in TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND

Stop the video at 22 seconds and you will see the sign indicating I tuned it.

I have already flashed a 1M and it will be at Mosport on Tuesday, along with the 335iS from the video. Plus I will be there also.

MarkD - Can you send me some details on your flash, I don't see much info on it via searching. Any specs, cost, customization, etc. relative to something like the JB4?

Thanks

Here is a quick summary:

- I can customise the flash for any normal mods such as cat-less downpipes, bigger inter-cooler, different exhaust. In the near future I will be testing a car with bigger turbos and methanol injection on a dyno to see what can be achieved with that. If required I can build a small controller to control methanol spray when required, which is what I hear is one of the advantages of the external power boxes. (I've been developing products with embedded micro controllers in them since 1978)

You just have to specify the current mods and I'll tailor a file to those. The price is $900 for any stock motor and $1000 for any file for a modified car. And upgrade from a stock file to a modified one at a later date is $160.

The procedure:
1) - read current file from ECU (1.5 hours)
2) - make file (1.5 hours)
3) - write new file (30 minutes)
4) - wait for ECU's to sync after writing (20 minutes)

Step 1 can be done on one day, and steps 3 and 4 anytime after that. Or the complete procedure could be done on one day if you leave the car.

Gains on a stock motor with auto transmission: ~ 70 crank hp, 6MT: 80 hp

Dyno charts are coming as soon as I dyno a few of the cars I have done, they will be dyno'd at Champion.

I've also tuned an X6, X5M and a few AWD cars, but would have to go to one of the few 4WD dynos in the GTA to dyno those.

Although I am well known for OBD-1 chips and OBD-2 tuning for older cars which I have developed myself, I am buying these files from a tuner in Europe who has been tuning N54's for almost 4 years and has done many of them.

I've loaded around 15 cars in total since last July, and nobody has ever called with a problem, I'm starting to feel like the Maytag repairman!

The current model motors I have tuned recently are the N52, N54, S63 (and I can tune any earlier BMW myself such as the S54 etc)
I also have the capability to program the 335d, but that requires removal and opening of the ECU.

One last thing, I am willing to give 3 people who are interested in a tune a 25% discount off the prices above, to help you decide to go the FLASH route and spread the word on how well it works. Take a further 5% off if you have this done before June 15.

I am based in downtown Toronto, but if you are north of Toronto I can flash your car at ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE AUTOMOTIVE in Richmond Hill on most weekends, if it is arranged in advance.
