Anyone done an E9x HEATED STEERING WHEEL retrofit?

I've only found tutorials of older gens using x3 wheels...

There is a private sale for some X5/X6 heated wheels with heat that are listed as potentially compatible with the E90. Does anyone know?

fantastic answer... why drive BMWs when we could ride a horse? because thats not what we want to do is it?

now to the OP im sure it can be done and ide like to do it as well but its hard to find a heated steering wheel for sale.

IIRC the control for the heat is built into the steering column, so you might be undertaking a bit project to get those pieces changed out but it's probably possible

What got me thinking about this was this thread from someone selling heated X5/X6 steering wheels that claimed that these might be plug and play for heat in the E9x:

As these wheels have the heat on/off switch on the wheel itself (vs the column on the E9x), the potential simplicity of this retrofit got me interested.

Anyone tried it or have any ideas?

Id love to have heated mtech shifter. Heated steering wheels is great now but cold shifter is a no no

I need to compare the connectors of the current E9x wheel with multifunction buttons to the connectors of the heated X5/X6 wheel.

IF they are the same and IF constant 12v power is coming through the steering wheel coil, it seems to me that the heated wheel from the X5/X6 that has the on/off button on the wheel itself, should work!

I'm new to Bimmers, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I've been researching this for two days now and all i've found is someone saying that the steering column is different. (Which doesn't make sense)
I would think all that needs to be done is swap out the wheel, maybe there is a harness that needs to be added(that's hopefully not inside column) and possibly code the new option into the car.
Is there a way to run part numbers online? I'm interested to see what part numbers are different, if any, between heated steering cars and non heated.

Here is a picture of the X5/X6 heated steering wheel:

The heated element lead (brown wire) ties into the yellow connector.

If you look at the connectors on a E9x wheel, they appear to be identical and of the same pin count:

Question is, is there constant power coming through the E9x connection to power the heated wheel feature on the X5/X6 wheel? Any coding requirements?

Constant power to the heated element makes sense because the assembly line would only have to check which wheel to throw into the car.
Maybe you could remove the wheel and start the car and check power on all those pins?
But I do think there would be some coding to do.

this thread from a user who has a heated steering wheel, states the clock spring is different between cars that have heated wheels and those that dont. interesting find. this would be a cool mod if feasible. I had also heard the steering columns were different.

Because the clock spring has a different wiring harness... just like the new clockspring included with my BMW Perf. Electric steering wheel.
