Anyone know an estimated price that a bodyhsop should charge to paint each rim?

Strictly painting or powdercoating as well?

My guy charges $100 per wheel, he actually paints it.

I know powdercoating places that will do it for less...$250-300 for all 4 wheels.

Honestly, for rims, I would go powder coating. Just make sure you go to a good shop who does good prep.

I had my new OEM M6 wheels refinished and painted. Powdercoating requires a heat curing process that potentially weakens both forged and cast wheels.

Powdercoating adheres better but I don't want to risk taco'ing my wheels since I sometimes take my car to the track....

Painting is pretty much self explanatory, the guy I go to use the same type of paint that one would use to paint a car. His turnaround time is quick too, he only keeps the wheels for 1 day.

Powdercoating takes a while longer to do, and like mentioned...it requires heat which many say it will weaken the strength of the wheels. There is low heating powdercoating as well, but some folks would just like to stay away from powdercoating in general.

I talked to several fellas who are in the paint industry and most of them say that painting wheels is just as good as powdercoating now since technology involved in the paint has come quite a long way, where as powdercoating was superior to painting several decades ago. They mentioned that one of the key components required for a paint job not to fade is to put a good layer or two of catalyst after the paint has been applied on.

Painted wheels are easier to clean if they are clearcoated but more attention needs to be taken when mounting and unmounting tires. Also when clean painted wheels can be polished and shine up nice.
