2.25" exhaust?
At the moment I have a muffler delete with a 3" downpipe from the resonator. I'm interested in getting a straight pipe 2.25" all the way back from the primary cat. Thoughts? I got an N52 btw.

I had straight pipes for a few months on my 335i. If you still have cats plus resonator, it might be ok. However i had no cats, no mufflers, and vibrant resonators and it was so damn loud that i had to get a full exhaust.

I'd assume an N54 would be louder than an N52 with the same setup. I'm not entirely knowledgeable on the subject

Ive seen a few 28i around with louder than usual exhaust. I cannot say what they had done, but some sounded better than others. Id do some youtube sound clip searching for what you like.

the *stock* single pipe is bigger than 2.25" - that's barely enough for 200hp.
don't do dumb shit with your exhaust, there's actually science and engineering behind it. You'll just sound like a dumb ricer with loud obnoxious exhaust, with nothing to show for it but a headache. |

Without knowing your goals for this project, how can we provide much thought on the matter?

My muffler deleted N52 is plenty loud, so I don't know what else you're trying to get out of changing your exhaust further. More noise? Better performance? I agree with atmosphericM that you should specify the goal when you're inquiring about exhaust mods.

Not looking for a rice rocket but it's a little quiet after it warms up. I don't want something crazy just a little louder at idle and a bit more burbles. The ones I get now sound like bubbles being popped in a cartoon haha
@AP888 I'd love to hear a clip

I'd suggest deleting your rear (secondary) cats, then.
