Cracking Alloys - what to replace with?
Hi,
My E91 335i is fitted with the spider spoke No. 193 alloys and running run-flat tyres. They are 18in diameter with 225 at the front and 255 at the rear. I recently had the rears refurbished due to cracking and one of them has cracked again and on the weld but now one of the fronts has cracked too. I sense I need a new set of alloys. Any recommendations? Brand? Where to buy? I’m loathe to buy a new set from BMW at £500 a corner and I’ve seen a nice set of Borbet ones for £800 the set. Appreciate any help. Regards, Adrian. |

As above, runflat tyres are the biggest contributors to cracked rims. The road conditions with all the potholes doesnt help either.
Switch to normal tyres and get your cracks repaired and you should be fine, if you want to keep your current rims that is. |

Surprised 18" wheels are cracking unless you have particularly bad roads in your area.
As others have said RFT are notorious for causing cracks in alloys so ditch those at the first opportunity but check the profile you are running. On the 19" they are normally 35 front 30 rear but they will need to be higher than that for 18" rims, probably 40 and 35 respectively, so you should not have a problem with the additional rubber between road and wheel. |

Have you been to a dealership and asked them to replace your cracked alloy free of charge? I doubt they'll replace the one you had welded, but worth a try on an unmolested alloy. I had a 225 style 19" rim replaced on a 2009 car and I was not the original owner.
