H&R Sport Springs question...

I have searched the forums.. and I'm use to all Mustangs in the past.. please help with 2 questions.

I'm looking to get the Sport Springs for my E92 335i coming in 2 weeks. It says 1.3 front 1.2 back in the drop.. is that enough to get rid of the "Higher in Front" look the stock suspension has?

Also Just if I JUST put the springs in will it still handle and ride well? What else is necessary? I don't want an over stiff ride. Just lowering the car with springs won't rune the BMW stock handling correct? I'm assuming that little of a drop will improve body roll and not sacrifice anything in the ride.

i don't have first hand experience, but i know for a fact from other people's cars that H&R springs give a nice balanced drop and do get rid of that "higher in front look". in fact you'll barely have any fender gap in both the front and the back.

ask anyone who puts springs on their cars and they'll tell you that you are indeed sacrificing refinement and a smooth ride for better handling and better looks. although it's not as significant a difference as on BMW's than on other cars, the ride quality does inevitably drop a bit... but considering how smooth 335i's run while stock, a little harsher ride and better road feedback is not a bad thing at all.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...tic+blue+terra

I would suggest you replace the shocks also.

I think the car handles very well with H&R Sport Springs and OEM sport package shocks. From research and what most people have told me this setup is just fine.

I put the springs on with only 20 miles on the car, seemed like a waste to throw away the oem shocks. I don't really feel like I "half assed" it at all. many people here on e90post have been running just H&R and been fine.

If I have to replace my oem shocks down the road, then that is just fine. I will replace with aftermarket, until then...

Since when do CA's know more than owners? Rarely if you listen to half the b.s. they've been told by their CA's and even SA's.

A FULL suspension system would mean new everything thing. I hope you're not considering coilovers a whole suspension system.

I do see why people would have issues with springs. Coming from the sport truck scene I never recommended springs to anyone. Always control arms or spindles. Plenty of reasons why, but it didn't mean that springs were a bad choice.

I can completely see why coilovers would be the optimal choice, however, I think they're also more for the guys who like to have near complete control over the feel and height of their ride.

When I end up dropping mine, I have no clue what I'll use. It'll be where the research I do at the time leads me.

Just my $0.02.

Your car looks SICK. My car will be the same except for Sparkling Graphite. I think I'll order the H&R today.

I had 11k miles on mine when I put on H&Rs. The cornering of the car did improve slightly, but what declined was overall competance of the car. When driving fast, bumps would make the car bounce more than it had before. It eventually drove me crazy.

Again, it could have been the mileage on my shocks (11k), maybe on a brand new car you can get away with springs only for while.

This are just holding me over until coilovers

If your planning on keeping the springs forever yes get the shocks. Based on what you say then to avoid going "half ass" -> coilovers and no less. Have you researched the quality of the oem shock? It handles Oscillation well with aftermarket springs considering they are stock. Maybe on a honda it would blow em fast.

I did Springs for now, until I get my coilovers. The shocks will be fine until then - and either way there being pulled shortly.

Buying springs & shocks is getting close enough (to me) to justify spending more for the full coilovers...

How long does it usually take to install these springs, and what's the going rate?

Daaammmnn.. That's about $300 CAD give or take.

Is it that difficult, or were they just taking there time? All suspension parts are the same more or less no? It used to cost me only $80 and it took less than an hour for my IS300.

Install is not straightforward, mine took 2 hours, and I paid £100. Either the front or the rear are more tricky, can't remember which one, plus my guy took the opportunity to clean a lot of parts while they were out...

the back will still be a little bit lower than the front because the wheel wells are lower, but it's really minimal and only noticeable if you nit-pick. looking at the car's profile you don't notice it as the shadow from the front well hides the fact.

Definitely a great upgrade, the sports will get rid of most of the wheel gap and IMO provides the best drop out of the two. The races are great if you want a tucked look but if you just want to eliminate all wheel gap and have a balanced ride height/quality, go with the sports. We are running specials on both if you need

You said that H&R would eliminate the wheel gap, but for what size of wheels? If I go with 19's or 20's, wouldn't I need a more agressive drop to accomodate the bigger wheel?
