The problem with the Macpherson specific strut spring compressor isn't with disassembly, but reassembly; trying to get the dust ring, black strip center washer, guide bushing, etc. to line back up when refreshing those parts as well, is a nightmare...and almost impossible without messing up the threads on the strut body, etc. (ask me how I know).

Yea, maybe you're the one I got the idea from originally on some other thread. I replaced the bolts as suggested. The high angle is at least, in part, due to poor machining on the compressor's adapters for the spring plates. It's possible if they were a better fit then the angle would be better and I wouldn't have needed the second set of compressors.
The tool is quite heavy and shipping it back would probably have been cost prohibitive. Fortunately, my car is back together and I'm enjoying the refreshed suspension. A couple of my rear control arm bushings were toast as well and taking out tires; replacement made a nice improvement. |

Use a wall mount spring compressor. Most shops use it for safety and speed. I did that on my xDrive with OE springs and B6/HD struts. Easy as pie.
