I live in NJ and you are all welcome to crash at my house if you come up here. I still cannot believe that when I read through this forum board there are people on here that deny that 29.2 changed the car. I remember 2 weeks ago when I picked it up and I would be stopped at a light and the slightest amount of gas would launch the car and the turbo's were almost instantaneous. Now I have to throw it down 3/4 to get the damn thing to move until 3k rpm's kick in. Go out for a drive and while you are cruising around at 1.5-2k rpm move your foot up and down on the accelerator 1/2 way and watch how there is no reaction from the car.

I am no mechanic but I don't think its the turbos. I have a BMW X3 loaner right now, and I was turning left and there was traffic coming in the opposite direction but I had enough time to make it. I pressed the gas about half way down and it hesitated for about 2 seconds, or it felt like 2. I had been reading the forums and read about lag issues and throttle response. The X3 has the 3.0L engine in it. I then tried to duplicate it in a parking lot exact same thing happens. There is definitely an issue with throttle response. I hope someone like myself or a family is making a left turn when they go to give it gas and nothing happens and someone t-bones them, maybe BMW will realize they have a problem. I have yet to drive mine but when I do I will definitely be calling them if I can recreate the issue in mine. BTW mine is an 03/08 build or later.

Anyone with 29.2 that is experiencing the issues posted in this thread have a SSTT? If so how is it performing? I know it will not cure the lag/throttle response but I wanted to get an idea of how it is holding up. I wanted to stay away from modding my car but until they resolve this issue (which I think will never happen) I am considering a SSTT.

Thumbs up

Just got my car back from the dealership and they uploaded program 36.02.07 after replacing both waste gates. Anyone ever heard of this? I did a quick search and came up with nothing. Could this possibly be a new fix for the 29.2?

Tell us more about your situation. Before 29.2, during 29.2, and now after (?) 29.2, what was your throttle response like? What exactly did your SA tell you, and do you have any mods/tunes on your car?

I am completely stock right now. The car feels like its still adapting. Ill go for a decent drive and report back. My SA didnít tell me much about the program he was real hush hush about things. In fact I didnít even see him when I got the car back.

I think YOU need to tell US that!

36.02.07 doens't make a lot of sense to me, honestly. They wouldn't suddenly add decimal places and jump 6 numbers. Perhaps 36.02.07 is the Dewey Decimal System for the category of books that describe people getting F'd in the A by turbo lag on a car that used to drive much better?!

Anyway, I know you said it still feels like it's adapting, but that's not a great sign to me. 29.2 is such a sucky progman that even unadapted I would think a fix-progman would be better from the get go.

Keep us posted and please give your SA a call to get to the bottom of what you got. Hard to learn much if that part isn't clear.

Thanks

You need to tell us if you had V29.2 or v30 before they upgraded you. Did the car not respond well under 3k rpm's? This version does not seem right though as they just upgraded me to v30 and the head tech said this is the latest version. I hope they are wrong though. PLEASE keep us posted and let us know how the car feels when it pulls.

wow, 36.02.07! I got an update a week ago and it was only 30.0.2. I wonder how they come up with these numbers and if there were version in between. I am very anxious to find out how this new one behaves in the car. My Dinan got pushed back to Tuesday in Texas and I want to ask them if they have heard any news about this problem.

Yes I was V29.2. What made it worse for me was the waste gates had been malfunctioning for some time and made the lag of the 29.2 even worse. So anything that was done to my car was defiantly better than the 29.2 program.
I havenít had a real chance to put a lot of miles on the car yet but I can feel it adapting over the 22 miles I put on it yesterday. From what I have noticed so far is the lag disappeared down low and seems to be back the way it was with the V27.
I didnít talk to my SA. He left a voice mail played phone tag and was gone when I picked up my car. I am coming from a JBX and just put the BMS single intake back on this morning.
I have the service sheet that I can send if anyone would like to see. (sorry ,Iím a noob and donít know how to post it on here) .
I will post more when I know moreÖ

I actually just came back from the dealer and they told me v30 is latest. I am sure all of us here would like you to keep us updated. How does the throttle response feel? This was my main concern as I have been in several close calls already as I need to put the pedal down about 1/4 to 1/2 way for it to move and when it does it gradually pulls. Does the car feel like it was before 29.2 where the throttle response was instant? Sorry for the all the questions but I just want the car I bought back.

the 36.02.07 is the CIB (like a technical service bulletin from bmw to the techs) that they performed. not the version he was updated to.

can someone pull that CIB up for us? (probably says update to latest progman, which is currently 30.02, right?)

also, i noticed on page 1, that he got both of his wastegates replaced. This may be why the lag disappeared. ON page 2 it says "customer complained of lag" and then it says "fixed with job 7" - job 7 was the replacing the wastegate.

Surfacedriver, what was the ticking like on your car? On here they usually describe it as a ticking when the engine descelirates for 3,500 rpm, but yours says it was constant, hot or cold. Did you used to hear the ticking at idle? Was there any situation where the ticking was more apparent?

The rattling sound was louder during the decent of 3500. I have never been able heard it over 3500 and weather it was hot or cold it the thing still ticked. However while idling you could still hear it under the car. What I have noticed so far is that shifting has greatly improved and is smoother to redline. Butt dyno tells me that it has more HP/TQ but who knows since it was deterating for so longÖ.
All in all with 6mt not in sport itís night and day from what I had. Iím hoping itís not the v30 and something new to help everyone, but who knows. I have emailed this with paperwork to terry @BMS and he is looking into it if that helps.

I know this is a BIT of a stretch, but could Surface's experience allude to newer wastegates being different than the old ones on our laggy 29.2 cars? I've kicked around this theory before, that BMW wrote 29.2 for DIFFERENT HARDWARE (i.e. beefier wastegates). That could be why new (v81) cars aren't plagued with our lag nearly as often.
When I got to the dealer tomorrow, I will ask them if they could replace the wg's and see what they say. It can't hurt.

A couple of weeks ago, the service manager at my dealership told me he opened a puma case for my car. But, I have not seen any documentation of that...so who knows...

Mine is one. No case number or something here, either.
