Motor Mount Replacement

335d - 2009. I have a noise when accelerating in left hand turns. Almost sounds like a making a strange sound (almost like metal to metal). I had the car in for a front brake job and oil change and thought maybe the wheel was loose or something. It's only left turns. Now the dealer says it is the motor mount. Can't understand though why a motor mount would cause that sound!

Take a look at post#16 and take a look at your passenger side motor mount... you will find that it looks the same as the picture. what you are hearing is the metal on metal contact of the collapsed motor mount.

Food for thought. A higher torque engine is going to wear out mounts quicker. Anyone with a big block muscle car has had to deal with this. Aftermarket designed torque straps to help take the load off of the OEM mount are offered. Not suggesting that addition here. I wonder if a Ford/Chevy/Dodge motor mount on a diesel is substantially for stout than on the gasoline burning equivalent. Sort of wondering if the M57 mount is more substantial than the N54/N55 gasser mounts.
Ive been thinking as the 335D gets more and more powerful on going ahead and replacing the OEM mounts with the 034 Motorsport N54 solid rubber upgrade performance mounts they offer. They are exactly the same minus the fact that ours have another bolt on the side of the mount for extra support it looks like. Know if this would work and be better/stiffer? Obviously you couldn't use the extra side mount bolt with them since they don't have it on the N54.

Here's the illustration for our OEM mounts with #10 being the side mount bolt and brace. Im even wondering if I might be able to cut the side bolt mount off to TIG weld it to the new mount if needed.

I'm not at all worried about that as much - already have Poly subframe, diff, etc. mounts. Do you have upgraded N54 Engine mounts?

I do not know of anyone running aftermarket mounts. Be nice to get rid of another failure point but wonder what nvh would be. I do not have them.

According to ECS Tuning you can run 335is mounts. I wouldn't, just because of how much a diesel engine shakes. I want that dampened. Not to feel it.

Motor Mounts?

Hi , Even I am looking for information on Engine Mounts Replacement will cover under the certified pre-owned warranty or not. I went to the dealership and they checked my car and said mounts need to change and it wll not cover in CPO. Dose anyone got the Mounts covered in CPO. Even I have my maintenance plan as well untill 2020. for this work estimated cost is 1600$ for BMW 2014 5 Series :-(

Usually motor mounts are a wear item and would not be covered under warranty, but your mounts are only ~$110 each. I have never worked on an N20 but that seems like way too much labor to replace the mounts

Just reading this resurrected post for the first time and wanted to mention that I just did my mounts. My passenger side "side" bolt was all the way out and laying on the bracket. The drivers side "side" bolt was backed over half-way out. I had no noticeable vibration difference after new mount install. I didn't replace because of any symptoms. Just mileage at 140k and no indication they had previously been replaced.

As one that has worked many years at the dealer. Under cpo warranty, wear and tear items such as brakes, tires, etc. There are certain components that they consider wear and term.
