Airbag resister - what am I doing wrong?

Just installed a Momo steering wheel but it’s throwing the airbag light. Have two resisters but can’t figure out how to clear it.

I am getting codes: 93b4 93a8

I’ve pretty much tried out every combo but still can’t get it to work...

Anyone have any advice? Thanks

I don't think you need/can cancel it that way.
You can do it through coding.

This is not a 240SX; Everything is fixed by coding.

Those are fuses not resistors.

I'm honestly not sure whether or not using the good ol' resistor fix will work in these cars, but I imagine it would. Like most cars, all the computer looks for is a resistance drop across the airbag. However, as pointed out above, those aren't resistors, they are fuses, which have about 0 resistance. You may have actually blown a fuse shorting the circuit like that, but again, I'm not savvy on these systems.

If resistors will work, you will need to research the correct resistance to replace the airbag with, and create that out of available resistors. I did the same thing in a Miata that I put an aftermarket steering wheel in, and it worked perfectly.

Use eyeballs. Resisters in the picture. Looks like he fused them just for fun too. Come on guys.

OP, do you have a JB4? it can clear airbag codes. So can BMW software. Airbag codes will no auto-clear. Clear them with code-clearing tools and let us know if the codes come back.

Thanks guys! Noob mistake. I think the Momo kit only came with fuses, no resisters.

Ordered some 3.3ohm 0.25watt metal film resisters on eBay for $5.

Will report back once I try those out.

I have a foxwell nt520 which should be able to clear airbag codes.

there are wound resistors under that heat shrink.

put an ohm meter on them.

if they came with the momo kit, and were for this application, call momo and ask them why it doesn't work.

Thanks - didn’t notice those. I think the Momo resisters are 2.0 from my research. I believe bmw’s need 3.3 so going to test out the bay ones.

Just code it out... so much easier than hacking up the wiring with ghetto fixes.

you believe things, but you haven't tested anything.

get out a meter.

and 2.0/3.3 what? ohms, megaohms, kiloohms?

not recommended to test airbags with a multimeter. things randomly blow up.

momo resisters are 2.0ohms, bmw should be 3.3 but no one knows

This could've all been avoided with a 5 minute coding job, lmao. By refusing to put a little effort and invest in a laptop with a BMW diagnostics/coding suite, you've now dealt with even more work and headaches and are still no closer to resolving your issue The least you could've done is look up the wiring diagram to see what wires are doing what, instead of random fuse/resistor combinations.

Good luck.

edit: And you're in Chicago, there's several BMW coders out there. Sheesh.
