Yep the M1 is in my personal early BMW story as well. Saw one in Munich in the early 1980s. It amazed me, as did every 911 I saw at that time.

I was never into BMW’s and I’m still not. It was the culmination of BMW finally having a gem of an engine with its B58, reliable 8ZF transmission, smaller size and acceptable interior design that I found myself getting a G42 2023 M240xi.

My friend had a bunch of BMWs, helped him work on some. I really liked how technical BMWs are and what they need in maintenance to run properly and be excellent cars. I do a lot of trouble shooting at work. I guess I'll do some more of that as a hobby.

No passion, I just love the DIY community, availability of information/software and parts. Where else can you get over 300 horsepower for 10-20k? Not willing to spend the big bucks on a Porche/M3/AMG. American muscle cars look like they're out of a toy box. What's the point of a big V8 when it has to move 4000+ pounds?

I worked at an indy shop where we worked on VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsches. My favorite was the Porsches but I was a junior tech so never got to work on those much. Typically I was relegated to the VWs and the Audi's but occasionally I got to work on a BMW and that was always a treat.

I promised myself I'd get one when I could afford it, I'm on my fourth one.

I bought my first BMW at maybe 34, back in 2012. E36 325 coupe. Bought it to use as a weekend track car. Absolutely loved to drive this car on the track. Learned a lot too! Still have fun tracking it more than 10 years later!

Exactly. But we kept coming back because it used to be the best/reasonable/only choice.

They did away with the unique/better sides. So, no loyalty from me.

In the late 90s I worked for a Jeweler who drove a 99 740iL It was my first real introduction to BMWs. It really stood out to me, and I decided then that I wanted one some day.

After my divorce in Dec of 18, I purchased my first BMW, a 2018 230I, now I drive a 20 M340i

Won't be my last BMW

Definitely my first BMW, which I sort of bought on a whim. I'd always loved wagons, shopped around for 540i wagons with manual swaps etc, bid pretty hard on a S54-swapped 3-series wagon, but nothing quite panned out. Ended up with this little guy which I just loved.

Driving experience and details were great and really opened my mind up to the idea of a more modern BMW. I ended up selling this a few years later, and then got rid of my '14 Raptor and '13 S4 for my M4.

The E46.

I saw it on the road and it was the first time a car broke my neck. Considering all the other cars that are out there, kinda meh, eh?

I didn't even know what it was at first. It wasn't until the third time I saw one that I figured out the brand.

Ran across this one up at COTA a few years ago. Such a boss car.

I was hooked on BMW the moment I first drove my brother's BMW 2002 back in the early '70s. I owned a '61 VW bug and loved it, but driving that 2002 was just an amazing experience; cornering, braking, fun factor, space, looks, everything!

At the time, I was in college and could not afford one. Then came marriage and kids so my dream was put off a bit longer. Finally in 1988 I bought a new '88 528e when business was good and I could actually afford it. I've been driving BMWs ever since.

Here's a pic of my brother's 2002 back in the day with my wife at the time. Wait, she's still my wife. 50 years this year!

When I was 4 years old living in England, my dads younger brother brought home a brand new E36 325is coupé. When he got out, he locked the car with the remote and the windows rolled up by themselves. I was mind blown. From that day forward, BMW has been nothing short of an obsession.

Same for me. I saw a coupe drive past while walking on the sidewalk and knew I wanted one some day.

In my case that was the E46 M3. I always thought its one of the all time best cars in regard to aesthetics.

That made me buy a E46 330Xd, afterwards an E90 which I drove for roughly 150000miles (just regular maintenance) and now I just bought a F11
