328i PE MOD

hey all, I have searched and did not find information regarding the 328i muffler in specific.

I just made an appointment to have the mod done to my muffler for $300-350 CAD.

anyone done this mod to a 328i in specific? will it sound good?

thanks!

Just put an aftermarket muffler on it - plenty of clips on youtube, more sound, more power and it's cheaper.

hmm.. what sort of muffler are you running? any gains in power to be had from a secondary cat delete and new muffler by itself?

I have a PE which will be swapped out with a Borla soon. You can look on Youtube and find anything you want, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Vibrant, etc. And yes, there will be a bump in power with both the secondaries removed and a new, better flowing muffler. I'd also consider a resonator as well.

Do you think there are more gains to be had from the secondary cat delete by itself, or a high flow muffler by itself? Is it worth doing one without the other?

Just had a magnaflow muffler put on.. sounds AMAZING. its pretty loud without being overly annoying, and the exhaust can finally be heard now. the other BMW drivers on the road are getting excited

when revving to about 3500RPM, you get that 335i 8 speed type *tuh-tum* sound when upshifting. im very pleased with the sound. I thought it would sound weird with the 8 speed.. its great.

I did a secondary cat delete first, and you definitely get some power in the top end and the engine note is nice, but the exhaust will still be too quiet.

I saw two videos on here comparing the PE sound with and without secondary cats, and deleting the secondary cats made the exhaust sound much better. it was a deeper, more throaty tone and really helped finish off the exhaust/engine note.

Honestly, if you want good gains and are looking for a proper sound, you should do both. My car can finally be heard now!

Delete also your resonator and you will add pops and crackling without drone.

I have a Magnaflow and deleted the resonator. It was too loud for me and sounded like an old MGB. I put a Magnaflow resonator on and it sounds more mellow, but still has some resonance going up long hills. It really sounds nice cranking it up in a parking garage and also at WOT. It has a nice rumble most of the time without being annoying.

Your air box may add a little noise as well. I have the BMW Euro Airbox which sounds nice with the Magnaflow. With the AFE Stage 2, the resonance was louder.

No plans to delete resonator. I heard it causes an annoying sound at low RPM and ive already got enough of that drone at low rpm.

It does rumble quite a bit at low rpms, but at 2000RPM+, especially over 2500rpm it sounds amazing. its definitely heard on the road now. the drone is a little annoying but is well worth the sound.

I'm definitely looking forward to finding an open stretch of road for a WOT pull. the little queef sound on upshifts sounds amazinf with the 8 speed.

Where in TO? Would love to hear the setup.

2nd cat delete already done. Also contemplating PE mod vs magnaflow. Would love to hear it first hand. (YouTube just isn't the same)

Who ever quoted you $300+ for PE mod was too high though. Should be $200 max since it's single muffler.

Exactly. That's a little too high for just one muffler. I paid $150 for my pe mod done on a 335i muffler at GTCustoms, except I brought it in a couple of weeks before I put it on my car, just to do a pe mod first to save time, since I haven't swapped the 335i parts yet. But $200 is a reasonable price to modify one muffler and weld it back on the car. $300 is just too much. I later paid around $400 to install the mufflers including the resonator delete, extra piping from the muffler to where the resonator was, x pipe and weld 2 new tips on it

Did you go the GTCustoms in Pickering or Oshawa? I got my tips welded on at the Oshawa location, definitely looks to be good work.

I actually got the muffler put on at GT customs in pickering yesterday.

Honestly, I would just go for the Magnaflow. the sound of the N52 is perfectly matched to the low, smooth exhaust note of this muffler.

Ali, I'm in thornhill.

What do you think of a resonator delete? Is it worth it if I install an X-pipe in place? any drone, power increase, nice sounds?

All I know is that the resonator typically reduces drone and rasp significantly. Maybe try replacing with Vibrant resonator instead, for a bit more volume, but still a refined sound?

Also curious to what GTRZilla says... he's got more experience here than I.

Yeah. Ali is right, it's to reduce the drone and rasp, in most cases if you have your cats deleted. As for me, the x pipe makes nice popping for my exhaust, I have absolutely Zero drone at any rpm, and can't stop enjoying my exhaust every day, driving the whole winter with my window open
I got mine done at GTC in Pickering as well. Thanks to Matt. They loved how it turned out
Those catless headers that I bought I am most likely going to sell, decided to upgrade my car in the near future

It was some Russian company that replicates AA/Supersprint headers, don't remember the name

As far as I know, X-pipes are for dual exhaust. How do you install a X-pipe if you have only one single muffler?
