my radio display (non i-drive) is failing
It's the little red screen, started out as a few dead pixels, now the majority of the screen is very dim, almost invisible during the day, with a few spots which appear to be at full brightness. What sucks is my car's not under warranty anymore due to too many miles.
Has anyone ever had this occur before? Is there some sort of connector on the back of the radio that may have come loose? I have no idea how to remove the radio to check it. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? Thanks, Simon |

Take a bright flash light and shine it on to the screen. See if anything is showing but just not being light up. If that is the case than the screens backlight is dying. In that case you just need a new screen. I don't know any numbers or how to do it but I'm sure plenty of people on here do.
I'm just taking a guess, try the flash light idea though. Good luck! |

You can't just buy a new display....at least not an oem display.

here are some pics, if it would help at all
in this pic it's fine: in this pic it's not doing as well, but still a lot better than other times: I'll have to try the flashlight trick, but since it's only in spots on the display it leads me to believe it's not the backlight. I'm hoping it's just a loose connection since it's intermittent. Thanks, Simon |

Yeah apparently the CPO doesn't cover the radio (or nav for that matter) either. What the f! BMW should not make products that start failing as soon as the warranty is up. I'm barely 6 months out warranty and 46,000 miles.

What's the temp outside your car when it happens... I jave had it happen 2 in the past week and it as 95 degrees with 90% humidity. As the car cooled down the display when back to normal. Expect similar results in very cold weather too.

hmmmm.... I havent noticed the correlation between the screen acting up and temps, but I also experience sound cutting out from the drivers side for like 20 seconds then it comes back. Anyone else getting this? |

I replaced my battery about 6 months ago so that cant be it for me. I think the HU is dying. Its frozen up on me a few times where it becomes completely unresponsive to any controls.

Same here. Just took it in to see if they would replace it under CPO warranty...nope. Said a replacement would cost $1325.53!

Do you have bluetooth? There's a known issue where the radio will freeze up because the TCU freezes up.

Mine is doing the same thing. When it is cool out (like when I leave for work in the morning) the radio display is normal. But after the car has been sitting in the sun it all but disappears. Mine too is out of Mftr Warranty, but I still have extended, would the extended cover the radio display?
Here is my display: View post on imgur.com

Heat Wipes Out Display
Must be a common problem. '07 328i in Florida - many pixels missing on display until A/C cools down the car - then it looks like it should. Warranty long gone, so I just Bluetooth a smartphone into the system for sounds.
