Makes sense, so you have to unlock the vehicle to get inside, when you do so, the fuel door is available to be opened. Your car locks as you drive, or you lock it, the fuel door stays unlocked. It locks again when you lock the vehicle with the fob or handle. Makes sense!

FYI: the fuel door locking is a coding option along with other door locking options. I forget which module though. Just saw it tonight in Carly while connected to my 2011 335is.

I don't think even in NJ they try to steal gas from moving BMWs, but I could be wrong on that...

You might think differently if you saw some of the places I purchase fuel from!

Coolest thing I've ever seen in NJ was on the Turnpike. About 25 years ago I was going south, returning from NYC. A VW Golf GTI went blowing by traffic in the center section. We were all pacing NJ Trooper in the truck lanes. So the Golf goes blasting by everyone. Not sure if he saw the Statie in the truck lanes or not. At the next gap in the Jersey wall the officer smoothly and at speed (70 MPH), just glided right through the opening in the wall and lit the Golf up and pulled him over. Most beautiful move of driving I've ever seen by a LEO.
