Has anyone had success with modifying/shaving the sensor down so it does not stick out? I do not want to take off the sensor or make any "duct tape job" repairs, but I also don't like the noise...

Someone needs to try this shaving a try. I would if I were more knowledgable. I had a sensor replaced under regular warranty when the noise first started. Now, of course, it is back and I am out of standard warranty. I was going to have an indie shop do a rear sensor for me, but I hate temporary fixes that come out of pocket.

I have the same problem, but one thing i found is that when i have my stock wheels then i got some new rims and change that, the noise went away and after that i dont hear anything. Until i change back my stock rims for the winter the squeaking noise came back.

I saw that there was some new action on this thread so figured I'd provide an update with my car. This started in March of 2010 for me and you can read what the dealership did to fix the problem. Hoping not to jinx myself, but I have not had the issue return and I've put on about another 20K miles, including two trips across the country. Hopefully it will stay this way.

My car does this too and it drives me nuts. It's always when I have recently released the parking brake (like stop at a store and then come out shortly after). I have also felt extra drag like the brake is still engaged when it happens.

As much as I'd like for it to be something like above, I'm doubtful. Both the dust shield and the parking brake shoes are stationary parts. How does rolling cause the squeak?

Based on the drag I've felt, I feel like it's either something in the parking brake that needs lube (but then why do brand new cars do this?) or maybe it's something goofy with the DSC hill assist or something.

It is indeed frustrating and embarrassing depending on the situation, that's for sure.

When I was leaving my parents place after a visit recently I was backed into the driveway which slopes downhill. On getting ready to leave the car wouldn't roll. When I feathered the clutch it made the darn squeak and would come to a stop - something is clearly dragging on the wheel/hub/rotor. I got it moving again and there was the squeal. I yanked on the p-brake which brought the car to a lurching halt. When I released it we rolled silently and effortlessly away on gravity alone with no squeal. Whatever was dragging wasn't after yanking the p-brake.

I think that is kind of interesting. I had the rear brakes replaced by my preferred indy shop (as opposed to DIY) as it was required of the PO to pass safety so everything has been serviced although not by me. I may be tearing in there and re-doing the job with some extra attention paid to the p-brake.

I've had this squeaking issue from the front left and rear right for the last year. Every time I accelerate from stop up to 20mph, it would squeal and then go away. I finally got around to changing all my brake pads, using aftermarket StopTech performance pads, changing both the front and rear brake pad sensors, and applying CRC Brake Quiet liberally during my install, and the squealing is now completely gone.

OK, I have some more info on this issue.

I have repeatedly been able to repeat the problem when parking with the nose pointed downhill and using the parking brake (I have 6MT so the p-brake is all that's holding the car in a lot of these cases).

When the car squeaks, it also doesn't roll freely. Some part of the p-brake is dragging, and is released by being applied in reverse. If I'm rolling forward and squeaking, then engage the reverse, roll slowly backward and give the p-brake a little pull it will shift the shoes so that they don't drag. The car will now roll freely and noiselessly downhill.

The worn spots on the heat shields may be rubbed by the p-brake shoes moving around between "forward engaged" and "reverse engaged", but the squeak is definitely p-brake dragging in my case.

I'll have to tear into things and see if there's something to lube to make sure things operate freely. The system appears to be properly adjusted and the rear brakes were changed as part of safety when I bought the car 1500mi ago.

I have a 2007 335i coupe with this problem, 37000 miles. I removed the rear wear sensor. This did not help whatsoever. The problem is not the sensor so dont waste your time removing it.

I will replace the pads soon and post the results.

As a side note, it's frustrating to take it to a dealer, pay 130$ for an hour of their time to tell me nothing is wrong, only to hear the brakes making a horrible sound when driving under 20 mph afterwards. Very disappointing to spend this much money on a car and get brakes that squeal while not being applied, and no fix from the company. I'm noticing a trend with BMW of denying a problem exists to avoid a recall.

Should hopefully get it back on Monday and we'll see what they've figured out.

You have a a lot of patient , that happened to my 2007 328xi same thing dealer can't figure it out . My solution was to trade it for a 2009 335xdrive I am so far , very very happy . I have no patient for those problem I gotta give it to you . Good luck I hope they find the problem

I still wonder what the cause of the squeaking is. I removed and zip tied my sensors about 6 months ago. The squeak came back. It was only coming from my right rear wheel at low speed, when warmed up and only when my brakes are not engaged. I removed the wheel and brakes, inspected everything, cleaned the calipers and removed the pads, cleaned them and applied CRC brake quiet to the backings. The noise went away and was super quiet for about a month and now it is coming back very slightly. It squeaks quietly only sometimes now.

The dealer replaced my front pads and sensor at 30k and fixed the noise up front.

In my case I took down the wheel and inspected the disk. I noticed marks on the dust shield from touching the break disk. It is hard to see it if you don't remove the disk or bend a little the shield.
I noticed that it is very easy to bend the dust shield when you remove the wheel. Dust shields are very close to the break disks and a little bend can cause the squeak.
By hand I bend the dust shield away from the disk and this fixes the squek permanently.

update after rougly bending shield and rinsing wheels (still waiting for more drive time). No squeeks encountered.

Kinda bitter sweet fixing this crap by simply bending the shield and multiple dealers couldnt do it. Selling car soon.

I'll give this a shot, the noise appears to be worse when brakes get really hot. Been hearing this noise off and on since I bought this car. Thanks
