As my 2010 330d is at around 85k I'm thinking it's time for the auto box and diff to be serviced. Does the fluid in the torque converter get changed as part of a service as I think is like this done as well.
What exactly do I need and where is the best / cheapest place to get all the parts?

you sure you could do a gearbox service,,car has to be up off all four wheels and run to temp with 5l oil in or summit,,loads more protocol to follow,,ill dig it out if you want,,i had my 335d box serviced £400,and if you want to flush the converters than another lot of oil is needed ie 16 litres instead of 8..this doesnt gaurentee all comes out.my kit was from Zf,,bmw indy i uesed does not trust anywhere else. £200 for the kit with mech sleeve/filter/oil and 2 seals i think..tnbis is the basic one ive seen..https://www.zf.com/unitedkingdom/en_...R0fwpxmevBU9T4

I definitely won't be doing the job! My mechanic mate will be doing it for me. He's gonna price all the parts up but thought I'd see where you guys got your bits from just in case I can get them cheaper than him.

Definitely use genuine ZF parts and genuine recommended, (for your auto box) ZF fluid

Apart from the oil change, while the sump is off change the mechatronic sleeve, plug adapter and the 4 value body sleeves – they are all plastic and contrary to what BMW say they have a limited life, again use genuine ZF parts.

And as said above "the car needs to be run to temp" - check on this but I think that it is 40 degrees C max

Yes I've specifically asked my mate to get genuine ZF parts. He's priced the parts at £250 and is doing the job for me at the beginning of January.

sounds a little expensive,,£200 is the price for the zf kit

My initial question was 'what exactly do I need and where's the best / cheapest place to get all the parts?'
Seeing as no one answered my question, (which was a little surprising I have to say) I just had to hope that my mate could get all the bits cheaper than I could, given his contacts in the business. He does generally get parts pretty cheap but there has been occasions when I've been able to get them cheaper - my glow plug module being a good example.

You can check prices on here with the BMW dealer, you can check prices with a Google search, you can check prices with an eBay search

Maybe not too many on here who have had the job done?

there is a place wheer to get but i forget wjat its called,,but remember the price was around £200,,ill see if i can find it,,this was before i got mky 335d and looked into the service,,l e bay have a few for around £190 but dont think they include whats on my invoice,,have a look..the £50 is the labour rate...dont think mthis is it but maybe contact for price..http://www.incarmotorfactors.co.uk/e...26-28osk0.html

presumably the mechanic put the car on the lift - drain the old fluid - dropped the sump, (plastic pan with filter incorporated) and then replaced the sump and plug adapter and then pumped new fluid in - dropped the car - went thru P, N and R - and then, (I think), you should run the car in a few of the speed - put the car back on the ramps - pumped more fluid in, with the car at the correct temperature - checked etc., etc, and then put the "filler/plug" cap back on.

It doesn't look like he dropped the mechatronic unit and replaced the plastic sleeves .......... or did he "replaced mechatronic gallery seal"

but even so £50 for labour seems inexpensive

Well out of curiosity I thought I'd walk over to my local bmw dealership (as its just across the road) and get a price for the parts. So for the sump pan kit, bolts, mechatronic sleeve and 10ltrs of oil (I could take back what wasn't needed) I was quoted............................. £491.86
Think I'll give that a miss!

A reasonable price to pay would be £250 for the above plus another £30 odd for the extra sleeves.

Some of the Ebay sellers are reputable suppliers of the genuine ZF kit

I've had BMW Bikes since 1984 ....... and at least I felt that most of their Bike parts were reasonably priced - but I find visiting a BMW Car showroom these days to be a very strange experience - maybe it's my age

an interesting bit of info, I read on the internet

The last (ZF) 6HP automatic transmission, was produced by the Saarbrücken plant in March 2014 after 7,050,232 units were produced. The ZF plant in Shanghai continued to produce the 6HP for the Chinese market

I'd check out his feedback and then call him and ask him if they are made by ZF and is this clearly shown on the kit that he sells
He also sells the adapter seal, (or whatever it's called) and the 4 sleeves - (which he indicates are manufactured by ZF)

yup he repalced the mech sleeve also,hes ex bmw tech,,and very well respected in the area,,he explained everthing about the service beforehand,,ie about temps then topping up etc etc his place is littered with m cars,,he owns an m6 and m5,,really good guy

i see you git a quote from cotswolds,,£270 ish...and only 5 litres,,i know of a guy(aaron court) who does whole service for £350,,but then if you want the torque converters flushed using extra oil its around £420..think hes in nottingham.(facebook).i was looking for someone at the time and was going to travel to him,,until i found the guy i used only 20 miles away,,nottingham is 150 miles from me or summit

I think I'll stick with the £250 my mate has quoted for the parts. I know he won't stitch me up and I know he'll get genuine ZF parts like I've asked for. Labour wise, he won't charge me much so I recon I'll get it all done for £350 or less.
