+1
Right lane should be used for cruising and Left lane for passing (speeding) IMO.
Recognizing that in practice police officers allow a little bit of speeding (no more than 10% above the posted speed limit) isn't hypocritical.

Actually, it doesn't matter. Classic (informal) logical fallacy.

I'll even humor you and grant you that I'm being hypocritical for suggesting that 62 in a 60, for example, is generally acceptable. Calling me out on my hypocrisy is not a valid argument.
The problem is that both your inconsistency and your underlying position are hypocritical.

I'll concede that the 10% threshold you mention is a commonly held belief amongst people looking for a justification to break the law. This is kind of like saying that a little bit of rape or a little bit of murder are OK. Too severe a comparison? Maybe trading stocks based on a minor piece of insider information is more appropriate.

The law is the law. You trying to take the moral high ground in a thread specifically devoted to accelerating quickly does not make up for the fact that you break the law (albeit by a lower percentage). IMHO, this type of thinking is a major problem and contributes to the prevalence of crime in our society.

The problem is that's totally irrelevant.

If you really think my line of thinking is a problem, I'll happily drive exactly the speed limit and not a single MPH more. It doesn't matter to me either way.

I'm generally willing to drive up to 10% over the limit in order to keep up with the flow of traffic, but I'll drive exactly the speed limit from now on.

This doesn't give any added credibility to anything I've mentioned thus far in this topic, though.

Every single day, we have a lot of wide open roads here in Alabama and away from houses and such so whenever I get the opportunity I like to get pushed back in my seat.

drove through Montgomery around midday about a month ago, only to end up in severe thunderstorms on I-65. It was probably the most intense I've experienced while driving, since most of the traffic pulled aside to wait for it to subside. Also the water couldn't run off the road quick enough. Definitely no WOT during those conditions!!

I'm no driver of a 335i, 335is, 335d, or any vehicle that carries the N54/N55. I used to drive a 328i and now I'm borrowing a base XF (4.2 V8, 2010?). Neither of these cars are fast but they're fast enough to find myself going in the 100's easily. I'm usually the type that goes speed limit + 5mph outside of parking lots. I've never really found myself to speed ridiculously and I rarely ever go WOT. At least 2 of these conditions must be met before I go WOT:

1. I'm alone in the car. At most, I'll have a passenger who somehow has the authority to tell me to go WOT.
2. I'm alone in the roads. No other car is present in front or behind or on my sides.
3. No houses, children, businesses, etc. in my vicinity.

On the note of driving a 35i (N54) car, I've driven one and it's a BLAST! I didn't even need to go WOT to feel its power. Everything just seems to be full of action! With that much power, I felt I had to have A LOT more self-control! I can see accidents and other bad stuff happening with this much power in the hands (or feet) of an immature, heavy footed individual.

Honestly, lot's of 335i drivers in my area are pricks that weave in and out of slow traffic. Some even take a "right turn only" lane and overtake the left/middle lane off a light just to get ahead. I'm telling you, a base model Fiat 500 can easily disrupt your speeding and prevent you from passing. This will cause accidents and who's fault is it? the weaver's because it's responsibility of a driver to be able to merge into another lane safely, not the other way around.

I WOT not too often pending on traffic, but it is very fun when I do as I'm sure we can all relate too

Can't use WOT at the moment due to old spark plugs which causes the car to have stupid 'hiccups' under heavy acceleration .

But before, I use heavy acceleration alot once the engine has warmed up although I rarely use WOT as I found with 50 - 70% throttle is enough in most of the cases.

But here in Australia we have a certain type of arsehole driver who loves to drive super slow (usually hogging the fast lane on the freeway) when you are behind them but speed up the moment you switch lanes to overtake, that is about the only time I use >70% throttle...

This. Responsibility in mind.

Haha, most of us are in the same boat with this rampant problem. Good thing for low end torque

Off ramps, steep curves and turns, and straight aways; of course this is when no one else is around.

Rarely, but if I am driving in an area where the light timing is familiar to me and I think it safe to do so, I might WOT to get through a traffic signal before it turns yellow.

(In DC, yellow lights have the same status as red ones. So if you get stopped or ticketed for running a yellow light, the citation will state that you ran a red light.)
