In all seriousness, that would scare the $hit out of me if a 328 took off like a Supra from the line.
Idk his set up is, but people say he dumped 20-25k in his mods
I believe it. Had a fully built mk4 supra down in AZ blow by me like I was sitting still (I was doing 90 at the time). Mario can probably back me up on this with proof if I ask him to snap the car at the weekend meet in Scottsdale.

Sounded like a damn jet engine gargling a bunch of pissed of hornets. Thought I was going to lose hearing in my left ear when he blasted by me.

I would love to see some pics of a 2JZ in any E9X

Which is more comparable a 2JZ vs N54 or 2JZ vs N55? Excuse my ignorance, but why swap an old iron block turbo I6 when BMW makes a modern turbo I6? Wouldn't the costs be through the roof unless you had the 2JZ laying around?

EDIT: Just re read posts above and answered my own question about costs

Lots of reasons. The biggest being the 2jz is a proven 1000rwhp platform. Neither the N54 or N55 is making that kind of power.

N54 is closer to a 2JZ than N55. That's why there are a lot of people that consider the N54 the modern equivalent of a 2JZ (not my personal philosophy but I see where they are coming from).

LOL you must be under the impression that 650whp in an LS1 is easy to obtain.
It's possible but it isn't cheap or easy.

440-480whp with FBO, heads and cam- At least $7K
550whp all the above plus $8k-$9k (including install and tune) blower.
650whp all the above plus $7K-$9K for rebuilt engine setup for boost

I have tons of friends will LS1's, there is no free lunch.

On an LS1 it definitely would take a little more cash to get it there, but on the 4.8, a turbo setup will make those numbers really easily

Can't the 335 make 400whp with just FBO? Much more cost-effective option...

More than that in most cases with FBO.

What's average? Not sure what BMW's drivetrain loss is, but assuming 15%, 400whp is like 470bhp. Didn't know they got above that with just FBO. Might have to consider an upgrade even sooner....

Cost effectiveness isn't what I'm after. I want something crazy different that still makes lots of power. And I want a v8.

On stock turbos, FBO, and you're running a large amount of E85 or race gas tuned, you could be very near 500whp.

I think the average I've seen on pump gas with FBO is around the 420-430whp mark. I've seen as high as 450whp uncorrected in the dyno section. N54 has a TON of potential without resorting to internal mods through VAC Motorsports or upgraded turbos.

Pretty mild build. I plan on doing something pretty similar with the firebird in my sig in a year or so hopefully. But you are right, its not super cheap especially if you want it to last, but the 5.3 block is cheap enough that if it blows who cares. Get another for $3-500.

So what you are saying is... you want a V8? How about two twin turbo powered 4 cylinders? you can stick one in the trunk...

I've been looking around more (that post about the 1 series with the s85 inspired me) and I basically want something with 8 or more cylinders

Yes you want something cost effective, let me break the news to you but you do not have a big budget for what you are expecting

Actually you have a small budget. Plus you ca not even do the work yourself so forget about building something crazy 600 HP that has never been done before, labour alone is probably more than half your budget at any decent shop .
More so if you want something that has never been done before !

I also don't understand how this is a shop sponsored car when you said in your first post that the money will be from parting out the n52 and in the last post in the same page you said to someone that if they can find a shop to do an engine swap for 2k to let you know. So how is the shop sponsoring you helping you?...

If you can get the shop ( assuming is a car shop) to do all the labour for you maybe it is possible. I thought the whole point of being sponsored by a shop is to get some work done by them
