Lots of dash lights and/or codes often occur when the battery is dying and in need of replacement. Failure to do the above can hurt a battery and shorten its life. |

If battery was not registered and coded, it will only last 18 months or so
Just had mine replaced and was only 18 months old Battery shop registered the new one but did not properly code it (was listed as the wrong battery type) meaning if I didnt get it checked and corrected, the new battery would have only had a similar life span..... you should get 5 - 6 years out of a properly registered and coded battery |

I would agree from observation, that not registering would likely not allow the battery to be used to its full potential, if the car is treating a new battery like a 6 y.o. battery. However, to say batteries fail in 18 mos. because they are not registered, to me, is implausible.
If we take a step back and look at cars where you can simply run to Costco, get a $82 battery made by Interstate with 130 RC and 7xx 0F cca, with a 3.5 yr. free no questions asked warranty (forums say Costco does not even bother to test when you bring it back, I'm not sure the staff would even be able to operate a load tester based on what I've observed), just me, I'd rather have a slightly larger carbon footprint and be able to get a new battery for $82, rather than pay the dealer $280, which is what I did. The fact that our aunt has her original battery in her 2006 330i that she got summer 2005, and lives in northern NJ, tells me a BMW battery potentially goes a lot longer than 6 years. my .02 |

How far do you drive your car daily? My commute is only 2-3 miles round trip. Since it was such a short drive my battery wasn't getting enough charge from the alternator. These cars draw a lot from the battery to support all the electronics. I ended up getting some faults as well, though none of which you have. I charged my battery at home every few days and the faults disappeared. Hope this helps.
