Went to LTBMW because the dealer wanted over $800. He hooked he up with a old-timer's special, but they would probably charge $500 or so

If you're going to pay to have it done, $500 is not a bad deal considering the cost of parts is almost $300 alone...But, like many others on this message board, I choose to do my own work and save the money. And, I enjoy the work anyway...kind of a hobby I guess...

If you're having any shifting issues, I would recommend changing the mechatronics seal adapter as well. It's pretty simple, you just drop the mechatronics once you have the pan off and swap the old seal for the new one.

i had a small leak like that a few years ago and suspected it was a trans fluid leak.. but my mechanic didn't notice anything and it stopped leaking. it only happened once after the car sat for a week. Few weeks ago i finally had the fluid/pan/sleeve replaced. in the end i paid around 800$ for the trans fluid, pan, mechatronic sleeve, oil change, alignment, mounting my summer wheels, and labor for all that (indy mechanic, not bmw).

But just the pan and 7L of oil alone was around 400$ shipped.shipping to canada was a real burn, cost me 100$. thectsc wouldnt ship to canada, had to use rmreuroopean and use a middle man shipping service (shipitto.com). Same kits/links others have posted but from rmreuropean.

I replaced my transmission pan + gasket but am still leaking oil. Scanning this thread, and from the diagrams posted, I can tell it's the mechatronics sleeve.

Question: Do I have to remove the transmission pan to get replace the mechatronics sleeve?

I'm hoping not, since I just replaced the pan + gasket + fluids

Sadly, yes you have to remove the pan. You can save the oil and re use it since you just put it in though.

Unfortunately yes, you do. That's why we all say to replace the sleeve at the same time. Sleeve is only ~15 bux and it's trivial to replace once the pan is down.

Anyone have any advice on how to get the new sleeve back in? I rotated the sleeve several times until it "clicked in" then I pushed it in as hard as I could but it only goes in about a 1/4 of the way...

Are you all using your fingers? If so, you all must have kung fu grip.
