225/40/18 on an 18x9.5

i've seen the chart about what tires specs work together on a staggered for x drive but was curious if i would this set up will work. Just bought new tires but found out i have a crack in one of my rims, another has bad curb rash so i was thinking now would be a good opportunity to go staggered. I know 225 front 255 back would be ideal

Neither of those widths are "ideal" for a 9.5" wheel. The 255 will be stretched some, the 225 a lot.

That will work but is very stretched. Depending on if they're 18s or 19s, 265 or 275 is the best fit for a 9.5 wheel.

18s and that's what I thought too, the guy at the shop said it'd be fine but I was too skeptical. Appreciate the response
