Synapse BOV Spring Question

I am buying a used Synapse BOV and CP, the seller removed the spring, will the BOV be fine with no spring? what does the spring do? should I order a spring? My car is running MHD Stage 1.

Thanks

Do you have any idea where to get the spring other than straight from synapse?

That's where I would get it personally.

Hmm just checked their FAQ section on the support page, it says:

"If your Synchronic BOV started sounding different all of a sudden, we recommend removing the back cap by removing the 6x hex cap screws, and inspecting the smaller diameter preload spring for any binding or breaking. The unit will function fine without this preload spring (especially if the preload adjustment screw was being run in the factory position). Try removing the smaller preload spring, and see if that fixes the issues you're having with the blow off valve. In certain cases, the preload spring may break, and bind, interfering with the normal operation of the Blow Off Valve"

I will still create a ticket to get a new spring, thanks!

Good to know. I was a bit hesitant to say you needed it because Synapse has engineered their BOV a bit different then a traditional BOV (like Tial) but I knew it at least had one.

I'd get it.

The preload spring? This is a pull type valve so the main "spring" really cannot be removed or modified. The more you boost, the harder it holds it shut. HKS and Synapse are both like this.

I've been running without a preload spring on my synchronic for ~20k miles on a 36 psi Xona Rotor 6156. Since it was a fairly large turbo, I ended up removing the preload spring to get rid of any surge that was occurring during partial throttle spool up.

So in short, no. You do not need the preload spring for it to function. But you may want it to be able to adjust depending on how much boost you are running through it....you may want a little preload if you're running anything less than 20 psi.

Yeah I think stage 1 MHD hits 14-15 psi so I should probably get the spring.

Thanks for the info!

Reviving an old thread, I began having this same issue. After removing my Synapse BOV and inspecting it, I noticed the preload spring was broken and it was wedged strangely and the BOV would not operate properly. I completely removed the spring and did a datalog. It feels ok. I just wanted to get some of your opinions on this run:

https://datazap.me/u/kisarci/removed...og=0&data=3-22

I ordered their upgraded v3 conversion with the larger valve and their new standard spring. I will post my experience on that when I get it on~ Thanks in advance for any help and opinion!

I've been without the spring for a long time on MHD Stage 2+ and it's been perfect, I think as long as your over 14psi

Logs look pretty good so I think you are fine. I am curious how the new v3 is.

Synapse is a terrible bov especially in the long therm.

the piston do get stuck from times to time especially at higher boost and the quick spool just makes it slam and force itself stuck in the housing cover (terrible design).

loved it for the first 6 weeks. then it became a pain in the ass having to pull it appart lube it install new oring. and everytime i get into boost i could hear it venting air.

Upgraded turbos, Upgraded BOV to tial never had a issue since. (they sell them with nice weld on flange where you can just cut the synapse crap out and weld it.)

Never had an issue with mine. I would say a manufacture defect or user error.

The synapse will always vent air by design until your wot. Just because you heard it venting all the time doesnt mean it wasnt working. As long as its quiet when your wot.

So i just installed the v3 upgrade from v2. I also got a new preload spring and installed everything. It was pretty straight forward. Went for a drive and I was getting the double bov sound. It sounds like the bov opens too late and i hear the whoosh sound from the turbo side first, then a whoosh from the bov right after. I then just removed the new preload spring thinking the spring rate was too stiff but i am still getting the same exact problem. I’m thinking maybe some of the air is going backwards recirculating the opposite way and some of the air going out of the bov. Any ideas? Should i not be concerned about this?

Humm, that seems strange. Contact Synapse and see what they say?

I just took it all apart again, cleaned every little piece out, lubed it up properly, re-installed, now it works much better!! It was my fault with the initial poor lubricating.

So for the v3 conversion review. Installation was very easy but just make sure you lube it up properly! The pshhhh sound seems slightly quieter but a much deeper sound (if that makes sense). The v3 valve is slightly larger than the v2 valve so i guess this makes sense since theres more room for the air to escape. If i have to make a comparison, I would say its kind of like blowing through a thin straw (v2) vs a thick straw (v3). Overall it functions great and i enjoy the sound it makes. I will give another update after i use it for a little while. Lets see how it all holds up in the future!

Thanks for the update! Where did you order the v3 conversion? I can't seem to find it.
