Everyone,

Help! My 2011 335i won't start, won't even attempt to turn over. Some details:

- drove the vehicle last week and it drove fine, with no issues on startup, idling, driving, nothing out of the ordinary. Drove for appx 40 mins.

- When I put the key in the slot the vehicle's lights and instrument panel come on, A/C comes on. The 'Service Engine Soon' light is illuminated, but no other error indicators are present.

- when I push the start button nothing happens, car won't even attempt to turn over

- I've tried jumping the vehicle by hooking up jumper cables to my wife's car, to no effect. Experienced exact same conditions when trying to jumpstart the car

- I looked in the fuse box located in the glove compartment, and didn't see any obviously burned out fuses

I'd obviously prefer a solution that didn't involve an automatic 75 dollar charge for hooking up the dealership's diagnostic tool to my vehicle (not to mention the expense of a tow), hence why I'm on here. It feels like an electronics issue, but that's purely instinct.

Thanks in advance for your help and insight! I'm really in the dark on this one.

Great! yeah I had to replace mine 2 months ago not an easy task

I just realized...why a thousand bucks??? I replaced mine with only $180 out of pocket... oh and a few beers...

I have a 2011 BMW 335i E90 N55

So I changed my spark plugs. My oil and oil filter. I also changed the Oil filter housing gasket. Once I was done i left the car idle and warmed the engine up to see if I had any oil leaks and I noticed I had one the the same area as the ofhg. I noticed oil pooling up near the oil filter. It was a small leak at first then as I'm about to back out I get in thr car and it tells me I'm low on oil to shut off the engine to avoid damage. So I got worried and turned the car off. I went and looked at the car and i lost about 1 or 2 quarts of oil. It went from a small leak to a big leak. There was oil on the hood as if the oil shot up so i knew it came from the oil filter area. Then to see the source of the leak i go to turn on the car again. But now it won't start it clicks and the lights on the dash flicker then it just stop completely. Any idea on whay i could be.?

Could the oil possibly have gotten onto the alternator?

Car could also be protecting itself due to low oil. Fix the OFHG, as it seems you either messed the gasket or didn't bolt down properly. Check the cap seal as well on the OFH -- but oil trail should lead you to the culprit.
