Those pics don't look like the cars in the shots of the masked up cars that were spotted today. Especially the bonnet grooves, or rather lack of in the press pics

I actually like the new shape and really like the new interior, however is it just me that thinks the roofline and window frames are identical to the old E90?

If that is indeed the case, then how 'new' actually is this car? Or is it just an old E90 with a new front/rear end and interior?!

One thing I DO like about the F30 - it appears to have a NORMAL HANDBRAKE and not a crappy switch effort like they fit to so many new cars now. My mate has a switch on his Insignia and cant get on with it and it keeps switching off when he dont want it to.

I can't understand why people can't get on with these instead of yanking on a ratchet spring-loaded handle, exactly as on the Model T Ford. Admittedly the one in the Passat is shit but the 5-series one is a piece of piss - on or off, what could be easier? Plus with hill-hold you can't really fcuk it up. Unless you're a bit dim.

the cross angled front bumper reminds me of the A4 s line. Jury is out for the interior.

Looks wise its ok, a bit dated maybe with an 'overs forties' look to it. Its a shame BMW can't be as bold as Mercedes have been over the past few years.

On the assumption that it's the same system as fitted to the F12, no problem at all - my F10 was in for a small warranty fix recently and the dealer gave me a 640i convertible as a loaner. It was a sunny day and, thinking it would be nice to open the top, I slowed to 20/25mph and pulled the roof switch - at least that was what I thought I was doing. Imagine my 'surprise' when the rear wheels suddenly locked up , I'd pulled the handbrake switch instead of the roof one .
Three thoughts occurred to me:- 1. I thought the car had to be stationary in order to operate the handbrake, 2. I thought you had to have your foot on the brake pedal beforehand, 3. the two switches should be further apart and have a different tactile feel.
So there you go: for those who feel the need to pull handbrake turns - no problem.

I've never tried this in mine but the handbook says something along the lines of "operating the handbrake switch in motion will cause the car to brake extremely hard (emergency braking) but ABS is still active" - to imply it won't lock the wheels, but I'm not in the mood to try it....

Definitely not to be recommended, at least not in your own car
I'm sure I've tried applying the handbrake in my F10 whilst stationary, but without my foot on the brake and I seem to recall that it didn't work. I'll be going out later and will repeat the exercise and let you know.
I'll soon be taking a 640d coupé for a demo and will try it on the move, albeit at a slow speed and in an 'anticipatory' frame of mind...

In my F10 you can definitely apply the handbrake without having your foot on the brake (mine's manual) as I've done it when rolling to a stop. Might well be different in an auto.

Manual/auto might well be the answer - I'll try mine in park and neutral and see what happens.
