Bluetooth pairing help (non idrive)

Hey everyone. I have a 2011 335i without the idrive and I cant figure out how to sync my iphone with my car so I can use the hands free bluetooth. Ive looked online and youtube but no help... the manual isnt too clear either. I've tried pushing the phone button and even searched for devices on my iphone but the car doesn't pop up. I obviously need to activate the bluetooth on my car but I can't seem to figure that out. Does anyone know how to do this and maybe give me a few steps to finally hook up my phone with my bluetooth? Thanks guys

I have a 2008, but it's also non iDrive so likely the steps are similar for you...

First, make sure your phone is in "Discoverable" mode. (Bluetooth on, ready to be paired with something....in this case, your car.)

Then, press the MENU button. Upper right corner of the head unit.

Then, select the PHONE option.

My pic shows my phone name (since I've already paired my phone), but you want to select the BT option (BT = Bluetooth)

Then select PAIR

This then takes you to a screen where the car starts looking for phones to pair with. I unfortunately can't show your specific next options since mine is already set up (and I don't want to unpair it just for this example). But what will happen (hopefully) is that the head unit display will eventually tell you it found a phone and ask you to either enter a code on the head unit OR enter a code on your phone. Sorry....this step seems to be a bit variable for different phones and different attempts. In my case, the CAR asked for a code, and I just entered 1 2 3 4. (if my phone gave me a code, I'd enter that instead on the car) That then results in the pairing, and you should be good to go.

I've had this basic process work with Motorola as well as iPhones.

Hope this helps.

(sorry for the crummy phone pics, but this was quickly done)

Wow! Thanks for the instructions! The only problem is when I push menu there's no phone icon displayed... Is there a reason for this? Thanks again!

Same exact issue over here. The process looks simple enough, but I'm thinking you and I don't have Bluetooth-ready bimmers.

Has anyone confirmed that not having the telephone symbol in the menu option = no bluetooth?

Yes everyone has .
Use one of the free online Vin checkers for BMW to verify
what options are actually installed on your car.

Easy way to check if you have Bluetooth capabilities is to look for the TCU/MULF or COMBOX (not sure which is needed for a non Idrive car) under the trunk floor or the assist button in the headliner light. A deck with Bluetooth can be swapped in and coded without the need for all the other modules. The deck with Bluetooth built in has the Bluetooth symbol like the one I have in my for sale thread.

If you pull your deck out and it has the Bluetooth symbol, you will only need it coded to work.
