Sounds like rocks being ground up slowly with a rotational clicking along with it. Sort of sounded like brakes at first but I can feel this in my seat almost. It feels either right under me or in front of me.

Ideas? Ive never heard it before today pulling into my neighborhood so I'm hoping nothing is too damaged.

Put car in the air, nothing immediately obvious. Rotated the wheels but felt some resistance, unsure how much is correct amount for an xdrive in neutral. Rotated the driveshaft on its own, no immediate issues noticeable.

The noise WAS only present when off the throttle or rolling forward with no throttle applied, touch the gas and noise would go away. Part of the diagnostic I pulled my driveshaft, its in good shape. Flashed xdelete and drove rwd, now the noise is present constantly. Also a noticeable thrum/hum at higher speeds that wasnt there before.

This to me says its in the front end as now the 'load' of the throttle being applied isnt making a difference, since everything is just along for the ride. Seems most prevalent on passenger side, so I am feeling like CV shaft makes the most sense but it sounds so bad that the differential makes more logical sense to me.

I'm unable to have my car down so I am driving it with xdelete for now until I blindly order some replacement parts to throw money at it.

Anyone else have an issue like this and it turned out to be as simple as a CV?

My car was doing the same kind of thing w noise that would go away with throttle. Seized u joint and driveshaft broke, took out a bunch of other stuff. I know you said your driveshaft was fine but just my $.02

Yeah I found many posts like yours saying similar that was initially why I wanted to remove my driveshaft to inspect it. But yeah it's completely off the car and totally fine. No play at all.

SUBBED!

I have this exact issue and cannot pin point. Front driveshaft U joint looks fine - doesn't have the red dust many people mention.

I had this issue for a while when decel-ing from 30mph to 10mph only when in Drive. In Neutral the noise was gone.

I replaced my passenger axle with a lower mileage OEM axle and the noise went away.

Outer CV boot tore, so I got it replaced the boot and the noise is now more prevalent. Now the clicking is there regardless if in D or N.

The clicking frequency is directly related to the rotational speed of the wheels ( I think )

My car is lowered on Koni Yellows and Eibach Pro RWD springs

I have an appt setup next Tuesday to see what's going on

So...

It was due to cupped tires. Put the front tires on the rear and the noise went away. I kinda feel a lil stupid for not trying this by oh well.

I'll keep listening for noise

Can't beat cheap and easy either way, wish mine was that simple. Mine have already gone front to back and thats not it.
