TPMS malfunction... Replaced RDC, now what?
So went to the dealer with a TPMS malfunction error that would go away, come back, go away, and now it's pretty much stuck on. Tried a reset (when it's not malfunctioning), replaced all 4 tires and sensors. No tires are low on air.
Dealer says RDC unit is bad (this is after they replaced a receiver, which they claimed was throwing codes, but yet, the TPMS malfunction still persisted). They wanted $500, I said F that. Paid Tischer $110 for a new RDC, spent 10 minutes installing it (it's near the battery, behind the soft carpet liner for anyone interested) and thought I had fixed my problem. Nope... TPMS malfunction still persists. Do I need to reprogram the new RDC to the receivers I have? Or should it just plug and play? Any other ideas that might be causing this? Edit: 2007 335i E90 |

I had a similar problem took the car to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong even though I was getting the error. At the end it turn out to be my hid fogs were interfering with the front sensor. So I just moved the hid ballast far away from the front sensor and problem solved. But if you don't have hid fog then idk sorry.

They replaced one antenna which they claim was faulty (did no good in the long run).
A couple days ago, it didn't error for ~30 miles worth of driving. But now, it's back again. Can't figure this one out... |

Bump!
I have a 2008 BMW 335i E93. I'm having trouble finding the RDC antenna in the car(different than e92). I'm unsure what is causing this code. It comes and goes (the code). Research shows that it could be frequency interference, bad TPMS, bad RDC module or antenna.. Correct me if I'm wrong please! |

Bump can I get some help with this? Im getting a tpms malfunction error, ive read ot could be the rdc antenna so i replaced that but the malfunction is still there, ive tried clearing the codes that doesnt work, the tpms reset in the idrive is greyed out. I had my wheels powdercoated and the shop may have replaced the tpms sensors and put the wrong ones but I took the car to pepboys and they scanned the sensors and said they're working. Any ideas on what to try next? Could the tpms sensors be active but be from a pre 2010 car? Is any coding needed when replacing the antenna?

You have to do some coding to reset the software to the new RDC. Take a look at this thread.

TPMS antenna cut wire issue
Wife's 2008 e93 had a permanent TPM error when we got the car. The 4 wheel sensors checked ok at a tire shop. Before I spent any money on parts, I opened the splash guard by the drivers side, on the firewall. Turns out 2 of the 3 wires cut going into the antenna. Hard to solder when under a low car on short jack stands, but I did it. My 'reset' on the BC was unavailable prior to the solder work. Immediately after the repair, my reset button worked. The light has been extinguished (for now).
I'd like to replace the cable, but don't know where the other side comes out. Anyone here able to point me in the right direction? Thanks, Marty from Muggy S. Florida Last edited by marty99; 06-19-2019 at 02:15 PM.. |
