I got a proper automotive drive online, but any drive would work. If you are looking for a larger drive than stock, check out MGU HDD model - it should fit right in, it is automotive grade and larger than Evo drives. MGU comes with HEJ423232H9E300 0A60405 drives.
What about a SSD?

SSD is hit or miss. You may have hard time finding SSD drive that has the SMART attributes that the HU is monitoring. Without these attributes the HU considers the drive faulty and goes into endless SSD restart cycle.

Once we find a compatible SSD do I just clone the stock hard drive onto it or are there other steps?

I've spent twenty years doing IT stuff with disks.

get the smart attribute list with tool32 and I'll find you a drive that works.

oh of course it's all in german.

I'll figure it out.

though the easiest way would be to pull it, attach it to a PC and then read out the smart attribute list with software that makes it human readable.

Right. Drives in NBT and EVO are password protected. The referenced thread has the info on the passwords. You can't just copy the drive without unlocking. But you don't really need to if you are installing a new drive. All you need is to partition and format the drive in QNX, create folders and the drive is ready for HU. You'll need to install map from USB (and optionally, gracenote).

Given the fact that NBT and EVO can play music and video from external USB, I wouldn't bother going to SSD, unless the map load time is driving you nuts. It's even less of an issue with EVO.

I want to store an absolute shit ton of 320Kbps MP3 files on a 1TB internal SSD. That way I can use the voice control to play different songs.

I wonder if I can do that on an external HDD?

Hi Guys
I'm Currently installing Evo into e93. I have a trunk mounted atm from the yard that was posted earlier from ebay. Im having a hard time activating or updating bmw assist is greyed out. I have signal of 3 according to tools32. The problem I'm Have is i'm doing this on a bench setup without kombi. I don't understand how to set time with tool32. I hope you can understand all of this, Hu and ATM vin match. Its an evo on id4. I would really like to get this working, at least traffic. Any help would be appreciated. I did read the post from vilord and bugfix and a feww others at car-technology. https://cartechnology.co.uk/showthre...ight=connected
Thanks Dom

Code EVO to get time from GPS and once it syncs, try updating services. If VINs match, you should be able to register ConnectedDrive account even without updating services - messages are delivered over SMS and don't use TLS.
If your SIM is deactivated (happens with totaled cars sometimes), as long as ATM itself is not bricked, you could use it as a host to move SIM from a roof ATM donor.

Interesting prospect, idk if my grandfather hands could do that solder job. lol. Anybody you know of off hand. I did see that post somewhere, just can't remember where. I'll find it. Thanks dls. Dom

Here it is. And look who is a contributor, 2real4u aka DLS.

It is actually really easy to solder with hot air. To desolder, mask everything around SIM with kapton tape (so you don't accidentally blow away small SMDs). Apply liquid flux from the flux pen (sold at MicroCenter and online) and heat to 220 °C with a hot air station. You should be able to easily remove it with tweezers.

To re-solder, clean up the pads with solder wick wetted with flux (again at 220 °C or just a bit hotter, but not too hot to avoid delaminating the pads). Apply soldering paste to pads from syringe (you don't have to be very precise), place the SIM on top and hold it in place with tweezers. Don't worry if soldering paste bridges between pads - solder mask on PCB will help avoid the bridging once the solder melts. Start heating to 220 at the smallest airflow setting. Once the solder melts, the surface tension of solder will pull the SIM to correct place on PCB. You could also apply small amount of solder to pads instead of soldering paste, but it may be more difficult to position the SIM on pads before the solder starts melting.

Code with VIN matching the donor SIM VIN and you should be good to go.

Hi thanks DLS
Sounds like a project and investment and practice, practice, practice. Maybe I should practice on xbox360's, lol. But I am going to try it. So change the chip from white atm to black atm.
Also how do I flash ampt on a bench with esys. In particular, I have to jump which two points in the little connector beside most? Thanks dom

Hi could I get access to your unpacker tool for btld files, thanks

Here are instructions on installing newer AMP-T into older car (specifically, jumper location)
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...adunit/Q3FtMUK

I am not currently sharing the unpacker. I am working on a newer version. Once it is ready, I'll share it on devicelocksmith.com.
